Re: Former Ajax Players
And Pantelic. Shame Jol didn't want him around because he was supposedly so old.

Re: Former Ajax Players
Jol wanted him to stay, but Marko Pantelic wanted a 3 year contract and Ajax refused to extend with more than one (or two?) years.
One of the very few moments the Ajax board did not give in on Jol's transfer demands / financial demands.

That's right. IIRC they would only offer him one year.Cruijff schreef:Jol wanted him to stay, but Marko Pantelic wanted a 3 year contract and Ajax refused to extend with more than one (or two?) years.

Re: Former Ajax Players
In three years at Olympiacos Pantelic has only played in 38 games, scoring 20 goals. I think he's had a lot injuries. Ajax made the correct decision (otherwise they go down the Feyenoord route of bringing in old players who are of questionable value).

Re: Former Ajax Players
I'll post this under 'Former Ajax Players'. Probably the most appropriate place.
No-one played as many games for Ajax's first team as 'Mister Ajax': Sjaak Swart, 596 matches in total. He turns 75 on July 3rd, which will be celebrated with a special 'Ajax all-star game' at the Olympic Stadium on the day itself: Wednesday 03 July 2013.
Tickets and info: HERE.
I'll be there. Not so much for Sjaak Swart, but because it's at the Olympic Stadium. Nostalgia.

According to Gabe Marcotti (http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/espnfcuni ... 95?cc=5901), Seedorf and MVB are rumored to be front-runners to replace Allegri at AC Milan.

Re: Former Ajax Players
And now there's a rumor that Suarez wants to join Real Madrid. Supposedly he's tired of getting clattered by the English press: "They haven't appreciated me as a player, they've just judged my attitude."

Re: Former Ajax Players
For me, whoever wants to join Real Madrid is just pathetic. Going to a club that doesnt respect almost anything. A place where the strings are pulled by former players, secret player troikas, the press and has nothing to do with a healthy enviroment

Re: Former Ajax Players
Laudrup's agent laughs off tax claim
Monday, June 03, 2013
South Wales Evening Post
MICHAEL Laudrup's agent has dismissed suggestions that the Swansea City manager owes three million euros in tax to former club Ajax and insisted: "I pity them."
Reports in Holland say Laudrup is required to appear at an Amsterdam legal hearing on August 29 over a tax wrangle dating back to his spell as an Ajax player between 1997 and 1998.
But Laudrup's representative, Bayram Tutumlu, has laughed off the idea that the Dane owes his former side any money.
"I pity Ajax," Tutumlu said. "Ajax have shown that they are not a great club, they are only a very small club.
"Michael did very well when he was at Ajax. Before he arrived they were down, but then they were champions of the league and they won the cup.
"After Michael left, they were down again.
"I speak on behalf of Michael Laudrup, and we are very, very disappointed with Ajax.
"It's not a big surprise that they behave like this because they have shown they are a small club.
"We are angry because Michael does not owe them any money. I feel pity for them."
Ajax, the four-time European champions, took the unusual step of placing an advert in a Dutch newspaper to serve notice of the August court date.
The tax battle apparently dates back to the transfer of Laudrup, as well as former Rangers striker Shota Arveladze, who also joined the club in 1997.
Ajax have reportedly since paid the Dutch tax authorities, but now want Laudrup and Arveladze to pay them back.
An Ajax spokesman said: "This is the formal procedure for legal action when the person involved is not living in the Netherlands or does not have a permanent address abroad."

Re: Former Ajax Players
Haha, nice story. This Tutumlu guy sounds like a reasonable and sensible person. I would certainly agree we were "down" when we won the Champions' League in '95 and reached the final in '96...
There's a bit more detail here.

Re: Former Ajax Players
Read today that Steks has signed for Fulham.
Re: Former Ajax Players
Benny McCarthy announced his retirement as player, age 35.
I could not remember he won the Champions League in 2004 as player of FC Porto but the played the last 12 minutes of it.

Aras Ozbilitz scored one goal and was lively around the box as Armenia thrashed Denmark in Copenhagen. Looks like Eriksen won't have to worry about traveling to Brazil next summer.

hahaha I really hope the Belgian team advances and does well. Haven't seen a more talented team for ages. Not sure if they have a good coach and winning system. The Danes, should start considering what the problem is...

Both of our former players from Uruguay, Lodeiro and Suarez, scored goals against the Oceania power Tahiti yesterday in the Confederations Cup. Uruguay now moves on to a semi-final match against Brazil.
