Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
The very vague Ajax conection at the end gives me an excuse to post a link to one of my favourite fan sites. http://hoppysnaps.blogspot.co.uk/2012/0 ... -town.html
Never met this guy but he's a fan of Dulwich Hamlet who are about 5 miles up the road from me.

Sounds good ajaxcolombia, when are you flying in? Will you be on time for the first league game Ajax-AZ?

Is it really so strange? Couples here in the Orient do it all the time. Keeping in step with those around us, my wife and I have a number of identical items of clothing we wear on weekend out and abouts -- T shirts, regular shirts, rain jackets, and -- of course -- Ajax jerseys.Kowalczyk schreef:This site is brilliant.

According to weather.com this morning: more than 8,600 flights cancelled, almost 6,400 power outages in Connecticut, flooding in New Jersey, 50 mph winds on Martha's Vineyard... and it's going to get worse: they're predicting wind gusts of 90+ mph on the New Jersey, New York City, and Long Island coasts. Many prayers and good thoughts to all.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
I'm down in the Washington DC area and so far it's just been rain and not too much wind yet. The storm has now taken a turn towards the coast and should hit the New Jersey shore this evening. The big problem for New York city will be the tide surges from the storm. We have a cable weather station and they are covering this storm and some of the surges are well over 3 meters in height. Where I live they are currently predicting average winds of 55-60 kph and because the ground is saturated the expectation is that lots of trees will be toppled bringing down power lines (80% of our electricity grid is above ground) so we are expecting to be without power at some point during the storm.
It's been very strange weather this year. We had a real bad storm back in June that we thought was the storm of the century and now are facing yet another one. As long as we have power I'll provide periodic updates. If people are interested weather.com is covering this extremely well and you can probably see some of the pictures.
Pretty scary stuff!

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
Flooding started earlier this day. Worst is going to be between 8pm and 2am. The storm is going to come ashore around 8 and that's the same time as high tide here.
Winds have just picked up here. NJ coast is getting the worst of this storm. Hopefully everyone there stays safe.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
We are still with power down here in Bethesda!
Wind is picking up and will peak in about an hour or so. We are expecting some gusts that could cause tree damage so we'll see what happens. The big areas of destruction as alread noted is the shoreline from Maryland all the way up the coast. I think a lot of beach areas that were there yesterday will be gone tomorrow. We expect things to quite down after midnight down here and gradually the winds will diminish though it will still be breezy and rainy most of tomorrow. Just an unbelievable storm.

Everything in Manhattan below 34th street is without power. There was a huge explosion at the Con Ed (local power utility) facility at 14th street.Orange14 schreef:We are still with power down here in Bethesda!Wind is picking up and will peak in about an hour or so. FDR (east side highway) by me is 4 feet under water. When I was by the river I saw a few transformers blow up in Roosevelt Island. Hospitals all over have flashing strobe lights.
Large parts of Queens/Brooklyn are without power. More than a million people without power in NJ.
To CNN & Co. - there is more to Manhattan and New York than Battery Park City. So, please stop showing the same stupid area over and over and over. OK? Thanks!

Growing up in Houston, we got hit by hurricanes quite a bit. It's a pretty freaky thing - the eye of Hurricane Alicia went right over my neighborhood.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
The storm is winding down here and we emerged in good shape. We had some very high wind gusts over night (peak bursts got to 95 kph but those were quite brief and sustained winds were 55 kph for about four hours or so). It's still raining and the total rainfall here stands at 19 cm. We kept power throughout. The storm has pushed inland and there will be lots of rain for other parts of the northeast but the main damage is probably over as the winds have died down. The transportation system is shut down for a second day but they may reopen the subway system here later this afternoon.
