He probably should be with his wife at a time like this - terrible news and yes, does put things in some perspective........gordonvandekamp schreef:Yeah that's horrible news. Looks like he's back training with the team today, although I don't think anyone would think less of him if this were not the case.

It does remind you that football is just a game. There are more important things in life.
I kind of feel bad changing topics, but (and I can't believe I am saying this) I hope Germany win tonight. For the past few years they have been playing good football, and I just cannot like this Portugal team.
Also wouldn't mind a Holland - German final. With an Orange win of course.

I'll actually join you in that. Not out of any great love for the Germans (!) but I really don't like the diving, cheating, referee intimidating Portuguese that much. They're 2-0 down now anyway.......DanK schreef: I hope Germany win tonight. For the past few years they have been playing good football, and I just cannot like this Portugal team.

I definitely support the Germans tonight.
I don't really have a problem with Germany. I hate the typical 'mediterranean' attitude much more: defensive football, diving, whining, cheating, asking the referee for yellow cards, not even to mention those annoying little gestures... Yuk.
Go Germany. Absolutely.

The last two crops of German players were young and fair, if you ask me. I simply can't hate any of them. In fact, to be quite honest, no German player is as much of a diver/whiner as Arjen Robben, I reckon.LucaS schreef:I don't understand that, Ko. German players were the inventors of diving and still are the masters of it.
Absolutely don't hate Germany. Never did; never will.

Germany, I don't like, but are quite good.
Portugal, I like less more diving and whining, but are talented.
I think Croatia should take it tomorrow with Turkey, with their keeper suspended.
I think it will all depend on which team shows up for the game (and how strong they are). Will Italy show up weak, Croatia firing, Oranje strong?
We'll see.

My feeling (last time I was 100% wrong about Oranje, so it's probably bollocks once again...): I think Holland will do the business against Russia, but I have a very bad feeling about a second encounter with Italy, for some reason.
Of course I hope Spain will make it to the semis, but they always blow it, especially against Italy.

I feel the same way, don't hate Germany either. I think that's something from the past. The hate (frustration) against Germany in Holland is over by now, at least, I don't see it very much any more. But you wrote about the diving and asking for yellow cards etc, that is normal in mediterranean countries. In my opinion that aspect is very much present in the German competition too.Kowalczyk schreef:The last two crops of German players were young and fair, if you ask me. Oh, I don't follow the Bundesliga. No idea.LucaS schreef:But you wrote about the diving and asking for yellow cards etc, that is normal in mediterranean countries. In my opinion that aspect is very much present in the German competition too.
But if I look at the current German crop (or the squad of the 2006 World Cup) I can't find a single player that I find annoying, or a cheating, diving c*nt or anything like that. They're a good bunch, who know their strengths and their limitations. Good boys. As boys they're not really different from the Dutch or Swedish squads, for example.
I absolutely hate Cristiano Ronaldo, though. I think he's a complete wanker. And I can't stand Scolari, either.
