Just read in De Telegraaf;
Co says:
"The Citroen (small entry level French car....sorry to the Frenchies on here! ;) )is out of gas"
Co goes on to say he was realistic about his teams performance "We are now paying for a very heavy season. We have been infirst or second place all season. Now it's April 20th and for the first time we're third. It's a shame we've thrown away second place".
According to Adriaanse his team is suffering from mental fatigue above all else. "We are missing the sharpness and the concentration to win a game such as this. We did what we could and made a spectacular game out of it. The reason it didn't work is the heavy schedule. The Citroen is out of gas."
In the league Ajax has overtaken the Alkmaar club and has a one point lead. Adriaanse does not think AZ can reverse this situation. "Chances are that Ajax will get second place. That seems the logical conclusion when you look at their remaining games and ours. I hope we can recharge ourselves one last time in the Uefa Cup against Sporting Lisbon in order to reach the final."
White handkechieves anyone?

Feyenoord - AZ 4-2
Ajax - AZ 4-2
AZ - NAC Breda 1-1
FC Utrecht - AZ 3-2
That's not a good series... One point out of four games and it was Utrecht's first win in eight games... AZ now have four defeats, of which three in their last four games. No exaggeration to call that a 'collapse', I suppose.
Here are the remaining fixtures for Ajax and AZ:
Ajax:
Graafschap (h)
RBC Roosendaal (a)
RKC (h)
Vitesse (a)
Groningen (h)
AZ:
RKC (a)
Groningen (h)
Den Haag (a)
Twente (a)
RBC Roosendaal (h)
Remaining opponents are actually quite similar. Both teams still have to play RKC and Groningen (who are pretty much finished for this season), one or two shit teams fighting against relegation (RBC, in particular) and one very tough away game: Ajax at Vitesse, AZ at Twente. I would say: equally tough/easy schedules in the last five weeks. Key difference: AZ are still in Europe.
Normally we won't give this away... (touch wood).

As long as I don't have to see the footage on TV - or the pictures on their website - I will be fine. I will not pick up a newspaper tomorrow morning.

They did well. They missed several important players (Opdam, Kromkamp, Mathijsen) but played quite well in the first half (although Lisbon had more possession). AZ scored a very good goal (beautiful finish by Landzaat), but Sporting equalized almost immediately: shot deflected, Timmer out of position, easy finish (a bit of an unfortunate shit goal to concede, to be honest).
AZ should have taken the lead in the first fifteen minutes of the second half (two face-to-face encounters with the goalie for Barry van Galen). Sporting's winner was a great, unstoppable long range shot. 2-1. Not a bad result, actually.
In the return leg Opdam will be back, but Lindenbergh and Buskermolen (two of the more experienced guys on the team) will be suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. Kromkamp and Mathijsen will still be missing. It would still be a little miracle if they make it, but this result in the away leg wasn't too bad.

Van Bommel
Report in De Telegraaf: Mark van Bommel to join Barcelona for three seasons. p$v and Van Bommel don't want to announce the news before their championship party and the second leg against Milan. But according to De Telegraaf it's a done deal.
Salary for Van Bommel: 2.5 million euros/year, not including match premiums.
Transfer fee to be paid to p$v: 0 euros.

From news portal NU.nl:
Some moron is trying to buy Gullit on behalf of Ajax...??? :D

WTF???eBay take Gullit auction down
AMSTERDAM - Ruud Gullit has been removed from auction site eBay on Wednesday morning. A seller named 'Henk8434' started an auction of the head-coach of Feyenoord on eBay ('the world's online marketplace') because of Gullit's "terrible results and extremely bad job over-all". A spokesman of eBay The Netherlands said that the auction was "funny, but unfortunately illegal".
"It is illegal to auction living individuals on eBay," the spokesman said.
"Our terms of use state very clearly that transactions via eBay may not violate the law. We will contact the seller and explain this to him."
The starting price for Ruud Gullit was 1 euro, but by the time eBay took the auction down the highest bid was 10 million euros from a bidder named 'Ajax.BV'.

I can't believe how unlucky AZ were tonight - was watching from outside the door as I just knew that was going to happen.... :nooo:
Ko (or someone else Dutch) can you clear up a mystery. The Eurosport commentator spent all night talking about "Aah Zed" whereas I thought the dutch would be "Aah Zee" as opposed to the English "Ay Zed". I'm confused, was he really speaking "half dutch". I know that it's very pedantic but it's been bugging me for nearly two hours now

Emotions during this game really seesawed.
I'm totally gutted.....dare I say it...my worst footballing moment (I didn't see AC v. Ajax live)....and yes I saw all those penalty shoot-outs.
Sh!t.....how could they not go through?????
I really feel for AZ tonight.

what an absolute farce, there is no such thing as stoppage time at the end of the extra session - even if there was, i don't know what he would be giving it for anyway from 15 minutes of end to end play - added on top of that, sporting scored their winning away goal at the very end of 30 minutes extra away playing time
what an absolute and utter sham that has been played on AZ :nooo:

First Division
For many, many weeks the race for the First Division championship has been a neck-and-neck race between Sparta Rotterdam and Heracles Almelo... Sparta were slightly ahead most of the time, but last week they drew 0-0 against Veendam, while Heracles won the away game at MVV (1-2). Both teams then had 70 points out of 33 games.
Tonight's results:
Heracles Almelo vs VVV-Venlo: 2-0
Fortuna Sittard vs Sparta Rotterdam: 3-0!
Very remarkable, as VVV are the #3 and Fortuna are second from the bottom! Sparta drop points against lowly opposition for the second week in a row, whereas Heracles booked two wins.
Two more games to go; Heracles now three points clear... Was this the decisive blow...?

Heracles is a very nice club. Great tradition, long history, nice jersey, small but nice ground... Yes, they eliminated us in the cup (as a First Division team) in 1996. Remarkable achievement.Venezuelan Ajacied schreef:Probably so... i dont know much about the Almelo team, but i do recall an elimination from the amstel cup at the hands of this Heracles like 8 years ago or so.... Anyways i believe both teams will be in the eredivisie next year.
As for Sparta: it would be great to have them back.
I sure hope they'll make it, if only because I believe it would be a 'healthy' thing for the Eredivisie if Den Bosch, De Graafschap and RBC all go down. They're so much weaker than the rest... it would be very unnatural if they stay up. We want new blood! New names!
Three newcomers would be nice: Heracles, Sparta and - preferably - VVV or Volendam. That would be awesome.
