Young Ajax - Young Heracles: 1-0
The 2006-2007 Beloftencompetitie has started. Young Ajax started with a home game against Young Heracles yesterday evening at De Toekomst, where it was pissing down the whole game.
Young Ajax were poor. They were the clearly dominant side, but totally failed to impress. They did grab the three points, though, thanks to a single goal by left winger Derk Boerrigter, scored just before half-time.
This was the line-up:
Van Duin; Timisela, Van der Wiel, Vertonghen, Slijngard; Anita, Krohn-Dehli, Sarpong; De Mul (81. Lewis), Poepon (72. Tayeb) en Boerrigter (57. Martina).
Three 'semi' first teamers saw action: Krohn-Dehli, De Mul and Vertonghen. The latter might be added to the first squad for the FCK game. He can play at left fullback and we don't really have a stand-in for that position now that Grygera is injured.

Didn't Danny Blind get him? Maybe that's why HTC doesn't see use of him the same way Db did.Cedric_AeF schreef:And why did we bring back Krohn-Deli if it's to make him play again with Jong Ajax ?
I know he was injured, but he has played several games with Jong Ajax now... (Not to mention the fact that the first squad is already quite large right now.)
Get a Cock
Only one explanation for Krohn-Dehli....depth. Depth at several positions if, when in the last several years, injuries crop up. Look at our midfield and tell me if any of those players have been injured over the last several years. It's probably a bad explanation, but depth is the only one making sense to me.

MKD will get his chance, but the first squad is too big to put everybody on the bench, if Rosenberg, Vertonghen and Charisteas are on the stands, why should MKD be in the squad?

Cup: Young Haarlem - Young Ajax 1-2
I didn't even know it, but Young Ajax played their first cup game (reserves cup, that is) yesterday evening. There is a report on Ajax.nl, but I am not quite sure whether this was a group game or an 'ordinary' knock-out game. I think the latter (just like the grown-up people's KNVB Cup).
Anyway: Young Haarlem 1, Young Ajax 2.
Goals by Moestafa El Kabir and Michael Krohn-Dehli in a very good first half; one goal by Haarlem in a crap second half. The report doesn't mention the Young Ajax line-up.

Young Sparta - Young Ajax: 2-1
After an impressive string of one win, Young Ajax have lost their first league game of the season in the Beloftencompetitie. Young Sparta Rotterdam proved too strong: 2-1.
Young Ajax took an early lead (goal by Rydell Poepon in the 6th minute), but goals by first teamer Cvetkov (57') and a long range shot from Joshua John (68') gave the home side the win.
It was what Ajax deserved, based on a very poor second half.
The line-up: Vermeer; Yildirim, Wormgoor (55. Alderweireld), Vertonghen, Slijngard; Goossens, Anita, Donald (77. Supusepa); Martina, Poepon (69. Brouwer), Sarpong.

Good win for Young Ajax at De Toekomst yesterday evening: Young Ajax 1, Young Heerenveen 0. The only goal was scored early in the game by Johnny Goossens. It was a difficult game and the win was definitely hard-fought, but they kept the shop closed. Well done.

KNVB Cup: Young Ajax - Young Stormvogels Telstar 3-0
Young Ajax have given the right example...
In the group stage of the KNVB Cup for reserves teams the Young Ajacieden won their third game, at home against Young Stormvogels Telstar: 3-0. In the first two games they had already beaten Young FC Omniworld (4-0) and Young FC Haarlem. The fourth and last group game (against Young FC Volendam) has now become irrelevant: Ajax are already sure to advance.
The goals at De Toekomst were scored by Rydell Poepon (55'), Stanton Lewis (83') and Jan Vertonghen (90'). All match statistics and line-ups can be found over here:

Young F-word - Young Ajax: 1-1
By all accounts, Young Ajax were - over all - the better side in this evening's 'Little Classic' at De Kuip in Rotterdam, but Aron Winter's boys eventually had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Young Feyenoord took the lead on a Banjamin de Ceulaer goal; Edgar Manucharyan equalized and should have made it 1-2 in the very last minute, face to face with goalkeeper Maikel Aerts.
The line-up: Vermeer; Yildirim, Timisela, Vertonghen, Slijngard; Anita, De Mul (46. Martina), Sarpong (75. Huisman); Poepon (70. Lewis), Krohn-Dehli, Manucharyan.
Here's the top half of the table of the Beloftencompetitie:
1. Heerenveen: 4-9
2. AZ: 4-9
3. Vitesse: 4-7
4. Ajax: 4-7
5. Utrecht: 4-7

Young Ajax - Young Willem II: 3-0
Young Ajax had an excellent start against Young Willem II at De Toekomst today. They scored three goals in the first twenty minutes: Sarpong (10' and 15') and Mitea (20') were the scorers. But that was it. The rest of the game was hardly enjoyable.
Nice detail: the entire Ajax-1 squad was on the stands, watching Young Ajax and chatting with the supporters. You can see it on the pictures on Ajax.nl:
http://www.ajax.nl/web/show/id=154417/contentid=60821
No stewards, no police - they were just mixing with the fans. All of them. Nice one. This was a personal initiative from HTC.

Young Ajax played a friendly fixture this evening, against Hoofdklasse amateurs Lisse. They lost 2-1 and Nicolae Mitea scored the Ajax goal, but that's not very interesting. More interesting is the fact that coach Aron Winter fielded two youngsters who are currently on a try-out at Ajax, namely Stio Lopes Nogueira from Portugal and Charly Davies from the good ol' U.S. of A.
This was the line-up...
Kenneth Vermeer; Vito Wormgoor (46. Murat Yildirim), Gregory van der Wiel, Dustin Huisman, Michael Timisela; John Goossens, Stanton Lewis (46. Chakib Tayeb), Derk Boerrigter (46. Jan Arie van der Heijden); Stio Lopes Nogueira, Charly Davies, Nicolae Mitea.
Lopes Nogueira and Davies will train with Young Ajax for another week and then the club will take a decision. There might be another friendly in which they get the chance to prove themselves.

That's possibly true but I wouldn't worry too much. Don't forget that this was presumably just another game for Ajax but Lisse might have been a tiny bit more up for it..........AsgAarD_xxx schreef:I start to worry about the future of Ajax. The results of our youth teams are not very good. I know that sometimes Eredivisie clubs' reserves include players from first squads, but I am sure that Lisse don't have any stars... Also: Ajax's youth teams are not in it for league results. Other than on the level of the first team, the team is not the most important thing, but the development of individual players.
For example (and this happens quite regularly) a right footed player who keeps refusing to do to anything with his left, will be put on the left flank for a game or two, just to force him. A lazy striker can be played in midfield for a few weeks, only to force him to run his nuts off and learn how to defend and work for the team.
This will not make the team a stronger side (they might even lose because of it), but it will make individual players better footballers.
Of course every Ajax youth team will try to win every game and do as well as possible in the league, but it is not the number one thing.
In fact: if a really good crop comes throught the ranks, the number one 'victim' will be... Young Ajax, simply because at this club those talented youngsters will almost immediately make the jump to the first team. You should bear in mind that at almost every other club Tom De Mul, Urby Emanuelson and Ryan Babel would still have been in the second team. At Ajax they move on, immediately, which makes Young Ajax weaker. And this is the case throughout the youth system: the better A1 players are already in Young Ajax, etc.
If you look at the average age, Young Ajax are one of the youngest teams in the Beloftencompetitie. Ajax prefer to play their youth players one age category too high, you could say. Not because that will improve league results ('cos it won't), but because it will make them more mature.
