I still can't get that image of Ruud lurching away from the camera down the tunnel after the play-off game (?) a couple of years back out of my mind....I actually quite like the guy (more than he likes Ajax!) so would like to see him succeed but I also feel this will be another failure.

Why is it that so many ex-decent players (think Bryan Robson) get chance after chance after chance in management even when they're plainly not up to it.............?

I actually think Ruud has a great footballing mind. I have heard him analyse games a few times and he does seem to bring up some very valid points etc. But analysing and coaching are two very, very separate things.

According to 'Revista de la Liga' Frank Rijkaard's days as Barcelona coach are seriously numbered.

The Barca committee have told the press that Frank "has no character" and other papers have said he has lost the support of the dressing room.

In a pole this weekend 66% of Barca fans feel it's time he quit or was fired.

I'd heard it said before that Rijkaard worked well with HtC, and that the loss of HtC hurt Rijkaard as a coach.

Separately, I wonder if Rijkaard would be interested in a return to Ajax.

Personally, as I've said many times, I'd like to see Adrie given a shot. But I'd rather Rijkaard coach Ajax than van Basten if it came to that.

This is interesting.....

No doubt as Luton are a small team the punishment will be severe but it'll be interesting to see if and when anything comes out of the inquiry into Premier League transfers.

Men, this is one of the best days in my life! After 2-0 against Belgium, Poland qualified to the Euro 2008! It is our first time we did it! Poland didn't play at Euro even when we finished 3rd on World Cup or were the best on Olympic Games!

Rijkaard enters the frame
By David Davutovic
November 18, 2007

AUSTRALIA may make an audacious pitch at Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard after his Dutch compatriot Dick Advocaat turned his back on Australia's 2010 World Cup campaign.

An FFA official said yesterday that talks had already commenced with prospective new coaches, and he confirmed that Rijkaard was on the shopping list.

But the official stressed that a number on names were on the hit-list.

Rijkaard would be perfect for the job, but Football Federation Australia would probably need to seek financial assistance, with the UEFA Champions League-winning coach likely to ask for much more than Advocaat's $2 million-a-year deal.

While Rijkaard is a long shot, FFA may rely on his Barca sidekick and former Socceroos staffer Johan Neeskens to talk him into it.

Pim Verbeek, Jorvan Vieira, Gerard Houllier, Juergen Klinsmann, Wim Jansen, Co Adriaanse, Frank Rijkaard, Jose Mourinho, Leo Beenhakker and Philippe Troussier are all in the mix.

Take your pick, because any one of these blokes could end up coaching the Socceroos as the hunt for Graham Arnold's successor returns to where it all started after the 2006 World Cup.

The situation is nothing short of a debacle, exacerbated by the fact that the Socceroos kick off their South Africa 2010 qualifying campaign on February 6, just 80 days away.

If they even get there :p
I'm game if you are. What are the stakes?
According to the schedule, France still has to play :

Ukraine, Georgia, Scotland and Lithuania at home and Italy, Faroe Islands and Ukraine away. I don't sincerely see them losing their home games and only Italy and Ukraine away should really be a problem. So yeah, I think they will in fact qualify. I'm no fortune teller, but we'll just see what happens. Let's be patient and whomever will be right in the end will be entitled to rub it in the other's face :00001757.gif:
Well, they're there... Let's see how they do in the tournament proper.
