So Olsen shouldn't coach Ajax because the DeBoer brothers were complete assholes?

Yeah, I knew that (and the "obscure website," thanks), but I agree with aveslacker; I don't think what happened was really Olsen's fault. "Uninspiring" is a virtually meaningless word in that context; the article itself points out that "the chemistry in the team was vanishing" even before Van Gaal left.

The de Boer brothers were acting like typical old fashioned arrogant Ajax players at the time (unless my poor memory is playing tricks again).

Bring on Olsen. Fine with me.

I've no problem with Morten Olsen. Would be glad to see John van't Schip and Shota Arveladze on board also. If AN is correct.

I remember Frank and Ronald de Boer complaining that Morten Olsen's training sessions were "too boring".

They are pro footballers who receive a salary. Sometimes you have to do boring work. No pain, no gain. Seriously, what planet were these guys on... Olsen should have punched them in the face. And he's a loyal manager too, if the De Boers hadn't been such pricks Olsen could have stayed for many years. Imagine, no Blind/Wouters, just Olsen well into the 21st century...

And still.. no to Olsen. These comebacks are never successfull. He is just not good enough. Better than MvB, Woutres and Koeman, but not good enough.

1. Olsen can't work with and don't trust to young players. Do you remember how many new players he took back in '98? 9 i think.
2. He can take charge at Ajax AFTER 6. june, and this is too late. 20 more days without someone in charge? No, thanks. AZ lost LvG later than MvB left us, and thay allready have a new coach.
3. What happend in '98? He lost control of the situation with De Boers. And yes, IT'S HIS FAULT. he was in charge, so he should to deal with it.

1. Acab, how many Ajax youth players from the period 97-2000 have actually made good in pro football? It was a very barren period at De Toekomst. You can't blame Olsen for that, surely. Everybody said he should play Brutil Hose. He did, and he was no good. Van Gaal had a load of good youth players to work with. So did Koeman. Olsen was stuck in a crap period in between. I'm sure if Olsen had an Edgar Davids or Van der Vaart to promote he'd have done so in a flash.

2. June 6 is two weeks from now. The season begins in August. Why do we need a manager right now? This is a crazy reason not to pick Olsen. The best managers out there are the ones who aren't unemployed. That makes sense. AZ are welcome to Koeman.

3. The De Boers signed a long term contract with Ajax during the summer and then decided to up and leave just before the season started. Arie van Os (not Morten Olsen) told them they were going nowhere. Then the De Boers went on strike. Olsen lost his best defender and one of his best midfielders and it was too late to do anything about it. It's not his fault that De Boers decided to leave at the last minute, or that Arie van Os tried to make them stay.

Yes, you are right in some aspects, but:
1. He was fired from Brondby, 'couse he didn gave any atention to the young playres and 'couse of poor results.
2. twe weaks is a long period. You can't convince me of the oposite.
3. I accept this one :biggthumpup.gif:

I too do not think we can wait until 6 june as pre season is 22ndJune and we need some new players.
We need someone now to make decisions on players leaving ie Kennedy Sno Steks Silva. Vermeer the young goalie wont sign a new contract until he knows what the new coach has install(luckily for Ajax just about everyone else has contracts to 2011)

I do not really remember much about his first spell here but if he is not into promoting youth we have a serious problem because MVB has certainly got a young squad here and we need someone to continue to build on what MVB has started.

Very few players will be transfer between now and June 6. If the options are either wait for Olsen until June 6 or hire someone who will be available sooner, it's a no-brainer choice unless that someone is Co Adriaanse or Guus Hiddink or someone like that. "He was available" is not a particularly good reason to hire a coach (see also: Blind, Danny; Koster, Adrie; Van Basten, Marco).

Most of those players mentioned can wait two weeks to find out if they're part of the plan. If Vermeer buggers off then that makes choosing between him and Steks that much easier.

Coaches get fired all the time. If we're looking only at coaches who've never been fired, then we're going to have a long search indeed. Besides, since Olsen was fired from Brondby he did pretty well with the Danish national team.

I really don't understand why are most of you so keen on Olesen? I'm not saying he's bad coach, but c'mon there are so many specialists, who are bettet than him. I think is time for a general change in the club. The club can't hire some of the dutch top coaches, so it's time for something radical. An italian coach is the best option for me. But no Olsen. Is the same ol' story.
The club is a mess, we can not loose any more time. We must have our now singings 'till the first training and Olsen can't do that.
He is probably not bad option, but not in these circumstences. And last time he had succses in Ajax mainly becouse of Michael Laudrup.

We need good players before the start of the next season. There's no point in rushing things. After all, we don't have a Champions League qualifier to prepare for, do we.

He is probably not bad option, but not in these circumstences. And last time he had succses in Ajax mainly becouse of Michael Laudrup.
Michael Laudrup, who he convinced to sign for the club. Shota Arveladze also scored 25 goals in 31 league games. Olsen personally scouted him and made sure we bought him... against the club's wishes, who thought that they had bought the replacement for Kluivert in Gerald Sibon. He also bought Sunday Oliseh, who we later flogged to Juventus for over megabucks. And Benni McCarthy, who we sold for big money and has proven throughout his career to be a quality striker (he even won the Champions League). And he bought Gronkjaer, who we later sold to Chelsea for loadsamoney. And Tobiasen, who was one of the best full backs we've had... but who unfortunately got very unlucky with injuries.

So to say Morten Olsen was only successful because of Laudrup is macking a mockery of the truth.

I realise not too many players will be signed in the next 2 weeks as most leagues have not yet finished but we start our league on 1st August and several players need to be moved on and some new players bought in .( I only mention the goalie position as 1 will leave and that leaves us with a 19 year old as 2nd choice so another senior goalie would be needed asap).

Denmark play on 6th June but he is not going to turn up for another week as he would need to finish off with the Danish FA so he will take over a week before training ie 7 weeks before the start of proper football. It does not look as if we will get a Dutchman so if he is the No 1 candidate it is just frustrating that we wont get him for another 2/3 weeks. Our rivals AZ and PSV have appointed new men and they will already be looking to see who to sign .

Wasn't this the same problem as last year? Van Basten had to deal with the Euros and couldn't come aboard full time until they were finished. Hey, maybe that's the problem he had; not enough time to work in the transfer market (and then overpay for Sulejmani). :smallgrin.gif:

I agree. I'm not agains Olsen in general Bryan, i'm against bringing new coach after 20 days. It's too late. He can't "scout personaly" new players like he did with Shota, does he?
Let's forget about this tired old man or otherwise we'll have another ruined season.
P.S. OK, I lied. I'm against Olsen in general. Sorry :blush.gif:

Ajax got into the mess it is in by being incredibly impatient. Not being willing to wait two weeks to appoint a manager is exactly the same thing. It's a really dumb reason not to choose a manager.

Olsen appears to be the only coach dumb-enough/willing to take on the Ajax job. If we have to wait two weeks to sign him that's hardly a catastrophy is it?

The argument that we should take a lesser coach because we want him to start on 29th May instead of the 6th of June is going to seem extremely hollow when we finish 5th in May 2010.

Jack van Gelder and newspaper Algemeen Dagblad are now claiming that the whole Olsen thing was a 'smoke screen'. The only remaining candidate on the list appears to be that of Martin Jol. If they can't get him, Ajax will go for Danny Blind...

You never know what can happen but... when you want to be champion, why call back the coach who got the most desastrous results in the championship of the last 10 years? :excited.gif:
That would be sad for both Ajax and Blind, unless a miracle happens. But hopefully, this is just speculation.

With Blind we went through the CL group stage, won the Dutch cup, and the play-offs. So I think we have done worse.
