According to today's issue of Het Parool Zdenek Grygera will be out for 4-6 weeks.

I feel sorry for him. He's lost his spot in the team and finally got his chance against RKC (due to Vermaelen's suspension). And there you go: hamstring injury after 16 seconds...

There was a delegation of Hamburger SV in the ArenA and they were probably there for Grygera. They just sold Boulahrouz to Chelsea and are looking for a new central defender. They're not going to buy him before Sep 1st now, that's for sure...

Not that I want to see Grygera go, but better to see him leave before the end of the season if his future is elsewhere. Guess he'll be sold in Winterstop now. Fingers crossed.

i think we have another Maxwell on our hands, a team would need to be desperate to buy him in the winter.

I just put up a bunch of news links on the Ajax USA homepage, but this one deserves a special mention. It appears that Zdenek Grygera has contributed a 'diary' to the online UEFA.com Magazine. Nice read! It was published yesterday...

Gryga to Juve?

Bericht door Kowalczyk » do jan 04, 2007 4:09 pm

Several Italian news sources report that Zdenek Grygera has reached an agreement with Juventus on the terms of a five year contract. According to the reports the Czech defender's annual salary will be 2 million euros (!). Juventus have reportedly offered Ajax a transfer fee of 800,000 euros for a transfer in January, but it is - by all accounts - highly unlikely that Ajax will let Grygera go for that amount. If a January move falls through, Grygera will join Juve on a free summer transfer.

Note that this is coming from Italian media. Haven't read it anywehere in The Netherlands yet. As for the transfer fee: I say we should let him go for 1.5 million or more, but definitely not for 1 million or less.

According to this, van Geel said that Grygera agreed a deal with Juventus for next season.

Yup. Van Geel just confirmed that Juventus have now contacted Ajax officially for talks with Grygera, but he also said that the clubs have not discussed a January transfer. Apparently, Juventus want him on a free transfer.

Which means that Ajax should keep the door open for Inter. Now that Juventus are about to sign him up for next season, Inter may want to pay for him in January... Be smart 'n' sneaky, Ajax.

He has agreed to a summer transfer to Juve according to latest report. No January deal has been discussed. If Juve wanted him now I doubt they would want to pay more than 1m euros as per Ko's posting of last week.

For such a small amount we would be better off keeping him as he will hopefully help us to win the playoffs and CL entry. If we sell him now we are short of a quality defender and may not find a replacement before the end of the month.

Hopefully this will be the last time we lose someone on a bosman .We cannot keep letting good players go for nothing.

I don't give a shit about getting money out of Zdenek Grygera, he's been playing for Ajax for many seasons now, he's been great and given a lot to the team. So if I put "Zdenek playing for us till the end of the season" and "2 million euros" in balance, I'd rather go for the former, since finding a suitable replacement will be a bitch and will cost us money.

I say let's keep till the end of the season and try to get a trophy out of it.

Ajax chief: Grygera joining Juventus

Ajax insist defender Zdenek Grygera is joining Juventus for next season.
Grygera, who is off contract in June, has received an offer from Inter Milan, says his agent.

But Ajax chief Martin Van Geel said: "Juventus have behaved correctly with us and informed us officially that they have signed the player for the next season.

"We have not discussed the option of him moving in January, but if the Bianconeri were interested in this opportunity then we would be willing to discuss the possibility of finding a financial agreement."

Ajax/Van Geel and Juventus should let Grygera finish the season
with Ajax - A proper send-off for him is in order...

All the big news sources (e.g. the People's Daily Online from China and the Calgary Sun) are saying that Grygera is off to Juventus in the summer :nooo:

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=u ... 1113147451

Goal.com writes:
Grygera To Become Juve Player Next Week - Agent

The Czech Republic international defender could join the Bianconeri before June, as the Italian club is working to convince Ajax to let their player go earlier than originally planned.

Zdenek Grygera could be wearing the Juventus shirt before expected, as the Bianconeri's directors are currently in Holland trying to convince the Dutch club to let him go before June.

Grygera has been signed by Italy's Old Lady on a free transfer and would arrive in Italy in summer, however according to the player's agent, Juventus are trying to bring the player to the peninsula during this current transfer window so he can get acclimated to the side and the new country ahead of next season which will probably see the return of Italy’s most popular club to the topflight.

The Czech defender is a big friend of Pavel Nedved and is set to sign a four-year deal and become an important element of the Bianconeri in their quest to return to the top of Serie A and European football in the coming years.

Nice write up about Grygera with a little bit of info of his time with Ajax...and his move to Juve
http://theworldgame.com.au/home/index.p ... &cid=85346

"I had some wonderful years here," he said. "When I chose Amsterdam in 2002, it was the right decision. Thanks to this Dutch experience, I have become a more complete defender."

Not a surprising comment though. Over these years he's had plenty of defending to do at times :D

damn, grygera is out of business for rest of the season, because of injury that he had in last czech match against cyprus.. when we didn't let him go to the juve in winter, it looked like a good desicion, but now we see that we had absolutly no advantage of this call..

On the bright side, Grygera is gone anyway. At least Van der Wiel will get a chance to gain some more experience.

So much for Zdenek... :nooo:

He might be fit in time for the return leg of the second play-off round, but it seems like he's played his last game for Ajax.

Never a good thing: one manager offers you a contract, but by the time you actually make the move a new manager has entered the building... We're talking about Gryga's new club, Juventus, where Deschamps left and Ranieri entered the building. Grygera does not seem worried, though.

From Sky Sports:
GRYGERA FEELS WANTED

New Juventus signing Zdenek Grygera does not feel he will be left out in the cold at the Stadio Delle Alpi, despite the arrival of Claudio Ranieri.

The midfielder [sic] agreed to join the Italian giants from Ajax on a Bosman transfer at the end of the last season while Didier Deschamps was still the Juventus manager. Since the agreement Deschamps has resigned and has been replaced by 'The Tinkerman' Ranieri, but Grygera is not daunted by the prospect.

"It is a fact that Deschamps knows me well," Grygera told Sport. "He wanted me in his team when he was coaching at Monaco. But the Juventus management wanted to sign me too. We will see how it goes under Ranieri. I will try to gain ground there."

The 27-year-old has also declared himself fully fit ahead of the new campaign in Serie A after missing the end of the season in Holland following surgery on left knee cartilage.

"After the surgery my left thigh muscle had wasted away," Grygera told Sport. "So I have been swimming a lot and strengthening the muscles. The Juventus team doctor is going to visit me to check my fitness. I feel 100% fit."
I am 100% convinced that Grygera will make it over there. He's a fantastic defender and I am very sorry to see him go. He's a great, positive character as well and I wish him all the best in Italy (shame it's with Juventus, though...).
