New Players for Ajax

I'm not sure at all but I also think you become ineligible only when you've played. But for Davids, I read that he played something like 20 minutes for Tottenham...
Well, I think it will be clarified tomorrow, hopefully.
Edit : And if I understand the link above, Davids was "Used as Substitute" once, and not only on the bench.

Newcastle United have broken the transfer silence by tabling a bid of around £5m plus Albert Luque for Ajax and Holland striker Ryan Babel.
Ryan Babel's talks over a new contract with Ajax have been stalled recently after Ajax failed to meet Babel's contract demands. Soon after this news broke a host of European clubs were being linked to the talented Dutchman. Arsenal, FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have all been credited with an interest in the 20-year old forward recently.
It's now understood that Newcastle United have followed up their interest by tabling a £5m bid including a part/exchange deal involving Magpies misfit Albert Luque.
I agree Babel should stay - But is this a good deal now??
Or would Ajax benefit more in 1-2 years time???

Truth be told i think this would not be a bad move, Luque is a very talented player and 7 million is not a bad fee at all. The closer the time comes for Babel's contract to expire the less we are going to get for him, and it seems obvious that he is not going to sign an extension.ajax-erie schreef:Newcastle United have broken the transfer silence by tabling a bid of around £5m plus Albert Luque for Ajax and Holland striker Ryan Babel.

I should add that Ten Cate should know Luque very well from his time in Barcelona
When Ten Cate was at Barcelona, Luque was already at Deportivo La Coruña. I don't see why he shoukd know him so well...
Besides, I'm absolutely against a Babel move. I'm convinced Babel has the potential to play with the world's best.

Moving to Newcastle is hardly an upward move. I think this would be a bad move for Babel. He still has a lot of work to do to live up to his potential. Having said that, I'm not sure when his contract expires, but if it expires relatively soon, it may be necessary to sell him.Mr. Ajax schreef:I should add that Ten Cate should know Luque very well from his time in Barcelona

But my preference would be to come to terms with him and keep him here.

Ahh, tricky. I imagine his transfer value will go down this summer. Hmm. I think it is still best to try to come to terms with him.Lucas schreef:Babel has one-an-a-half year left of his contract. It seems that talks about extension have been going on for some time now, and the big discussion point is the fact that Babel presumably wants a limited transferfee in his contract.

VDHeijden signs to June 2009 and Supusepa to June 2010.
Together with Donald thats 3 more young locals signed.
I still marvel at how this club concentrates on local players .
I believe there are hardly any non Dutch in our senior youth squads
so Ajax will continue this great tradition of signing local youth.
PS Here in England Arsenal cannot find any local players from a 10 million population in Greater London and even Liverpool, who used to have a great local system, now look abroad for youth.

No way Pearce has the skill set or level to play for Ajax. He's been solid in the rear for FCN - sure, but no way near the level needed to play for Ajax.bluedaddy19 schreef:an american is screaming "come get me, AJAX!"

some folks would totally disagree with you, but id say he would need six months to adapt - he is very confident and learns fast, so if challenged more he could blossom - whether he can reach this level is up to debate, but he certainly plays the AJAX style of LB
for those who dont know, he is very fast with a good cross and aggressive coming up the wing - has 6 US caps, and is considered by some to be the choice to groom for our WC 2010 left back
