I think this was more of a marketability list, as opposed to their value as an actual player.ZoefdeHaas schreef:On BBC for valueable players of Europe, Babel is valued higher than the likes of RvN at about 12m pounds (!)

So, our man is back in the team. After the RKC Waalwijk game he said he feels happy. And: "I really want to stay at Ajax." So much for the transfer rumours.
Today a remarkable little report popped up on Ajax Netwerk. I can't figure out source, but apparently Ryan Babel is working individually on his ball technique these days. Which is a good idea. I've always thought that he's an entertaining and powerful player, who can score a goal as well, but his skill (his first touch, in particular) really must improve. He's working on it. Nice one.
The remarkable thing is: his individual 'skill coach' is not from the Ajax organisation, but an 'external' coach, working with the internationally renowned 'Dutch skill method' as developed by Wiel Coerver.
Piet Keizer (an official 'advisor' for Ajax these days) has said that he finds this a bit odd. And he's right, I guess. We're Ajax, the world-famous university of skill, and we don't have a specialized coach to work on the boys' ball technique...? Babel's agent: "Apparently not. Or perhaps there is no time for it."
Whatever. Let's look at the bright side: Babel is back and working his first touch. Good news. It would have been a pity if we'd lost him.
K.

i'd say, don't sell him, he will be worth much more in 2 years. Babel is going to be the player with the best improvements this season.cdnajaxfan schreef:I'd even sell him for less! Apparently, Hamburg wants him according to Sky Sports. Sold!
Henk de Gier is geniaal en zijn tijd ver vooruit.

Er... only ifHenk de Gier schreef: Babel is going to be the player with the best improvements this season.
a) he develops a minimal skill in the "first touch" which he needs as a winger
b) he changes position
Last night it was again painfully obvious he was out of position.
“If I wanted you to understand it, I would have explained it better.”

Ryan should stay. I have a lot of time for the guy. He's still extremely young and immensely talented. Sure he has a few things to work on, but he has a great future.
We need to hang onto these sort of players. We invest so much and then seem to get rid of them at such a young age, we don't see the benefits on the pitch.
Babel needs to stay put imo.

He's back!
A week earlier than expected and I immediately liked him. He did a few very good things coming from the left flank. Good to have him back for the AZ game.
His return will also make things easier for KJH. With Rosales/De Mul on the right and a boy like Mitea on the left, the defenders know that there will be limited danger from the flanks. Firstly, most of the crosses will be poor and (secondly and more importantly) none of these wingers tend to cut to the middle and shoot. Which means that the defenders can stay in the centre and mark KJH. With Ryan Babel they will have to step out of the defense, as he will take them on, cut to the centre and fire.
More defensive attention for the left winger = less defensive attention for KJH = more goals

Cutting to the middle to shoot is pretty much all Mitea does. And he does it well too. His diagonal shots tend to be very dangerous. Of course, if Babel turns out to be 100% fit, I'd rather have him on the left than Mitea. But Mitea is a very useful player to have on the bench.
- Je bent net zolang gestoord tot je een genie bent -
Mitea is a lefty so cutting inside and shooting puts him in front of his weaker foot most of the time. Babel has such a powerful shot, whereas Mitea has the power of a youth player.

Babel commits future to Ajax despite Arsenal link
Ajax winger Ryan Babel has played down speculation he is set to leave the Eredivisie giants after speculation linked him with Arsenal this week.
The Gunners are the latest club to be linked with a move for the 20-year-old Dutch international and although he has not ruled out moving abroad in the future, he insists he is committed to Henk ten Cate's side.
'I am not occupied with foreign interest,' said Babel.
'I want to focus only on football . When I play good things will come by itself, wherever that may be.
'I will play at Ajax next season. I have a contract for another one and a half years and as far as I know I will hold on to that.
'Just like every other player I have my dreams. In the past that was playing at Ajax. Later I found AC Milan a nice club.
'In recent years Arsenal and Barcelona have also impressed me.'
Babel, who can also play in attack, has scored four goals in 14 appearances for Ajax this season.
Guess this makes it easier to accept, at this time next year
