In an interview with the Highlow.nl website Thomas Vermaelen has said that he will be out for some time: he picked up an injury while playing for Belgium this summer, remained on the bench against JOS this Saturday and will be out for another four weeks or so.

"I'm taking it easy. This is an annoying injury and I just want to take my time and not force anything."

Four weeks... Hmmm. Would have been nice if Stam and Vermaelen had been there from the outset. They need to play games together, but it sounds like they won't play together before the CL qualifiers... Which I think is pretty bad news.

According to "Piłka Nożna", Tottenham would like to buy Vermaelen in this transfer window. Good news is that ten Cate said he won't agree for that transfer :xyxthumbs: .

The press reckon Spurs have bid 6m euros but they describe him as a left back who can play left midfield. Is this the same player who is a central defender for us??

As he has played in the CL this week I assume he would not be able to play for Spurs in UEFA Cup?

Bottom line Ajax will tell this small english club who haven't won anything for about 20 years to piss off.

Jol was quoted as saying he was impressed but Ajax do not want to sell and he will keep awatching brief this season. Press therefore invent the story he is about to go.

Would have thought Grygera a good buy for them !

i say if spurs want to bid 7M for him, i say let them have him... heitinga or grygera should be in that spot anyway - plus, then we can buy sivok or gravesen

Heitinga and Grygera are right footed players, Vermaelen is a leftie. And he's got more potential then both Heitinga and Grygera.

Spurs an buy Grygera for 3m

Vermaelen is left footed, but I think Grygera and Stam is a stronger partnership .That said, I think Vermaelen stays this year , though maybe Ajax and Spurs reach some agreement for next July 1, and Grygera goes .

Swart the agent has said there has been no contract from this small English club and the player himself has evidently said he will stay with Ajax.

Just one of those stories made up by the press. Spurs are being listed with loads of players at the moment.

End of debate.

One unlucky touch and you're stupid??

EVERY defender would have tried to block the ball like that.

For the record: Thomas Vermaelen will be suspended for Sunday's league game at FC Groningen after picking up a yellow card against Utrecht on Sunday.

I just saw the footage of Belgium vs Czech Rep on Eurosport 2 and it looked pretty bloody bad... Vermaelen attempted to clear and it seemed like three things went wrong at the same time: he slipped, he kicked into the grass and the opponent hit the ball at the same time as him, from the other side.

Thomas had a lot of pain and couldn't limp off the pitch without help. He must have torn somethingm by the look of it...

Anyway: six weeks it is.

Yeah, I read he damaged the intern ligaments of its right knee... I'm not a specialist, but obviously, it doesn't sound good.

Newspaper De Telegraaf reports that Ajax and Thomas Vermaelen have started talks about a contract renewal. Ajax reportedly want to extend his deal for another two seasons, until the summer of 2012. More news when it happens.

Vermaelen returned to action in Young Ajax's friendly against FC Haarlem tonight. He played 45 minutes and it went well. If he recovers well from his first half of competitive action in four months' time, he is likely to be in the squad for Wednesday's game against Utrecht.

We can use this guy, that's for sure...

De naam van Thomas Vermaelen staat woensdagavond voor het eerst sinds september weer op het wedstrijdformulier van Ajax 1. De Belg is volgens Adrie Koster fit genoeg om tegen FC Utrecht in actie te komen.

According to Koster, Vermaelen will play on Sunday against Utrecht.
