Have any of you guys tried Googles new program, Google Earth? It's kinda cool, I'm walking down the Koningsstraat over to Nieuwmarkt right now. Gotta visit the Rid Light District too.

Good freeware from Google.

By the way, I visited Stockholm two days ago and vent to see Djurgården-Hammarby. Great game, awesome athmosphere with the 28.000 sinigng the entire game, but a mediochre result, 2-2. We should have won. Made a huge mistake though. Our tickets were in the Hammarby section. Had to sit there among all those green people cheering almost alone when Djurgården scored. Won't make that mistake again. Anyway, great to watch my first game of real football this season. I should definetly see more game, if I only had the money...

Dutch films

SE6Ajacied schreef:Not strictly tourist info I know but it fits nicely into the discussion we're having here......As I'm trying badly to learn Dutch and pick up an all round Dutch experience etc I always look out for Dutch films (not that sort :D ) that have English subtitles - There aren't many to chose from, even in Holland but I have a few. I managed to pick up a fairly new title for only 4.99 Euro's at Schipol yesterday "Oesters Van Nam Kee". Set in Amsterdam and the main characters are Ajax fans.
What's it about? I'm always interested in foreign films (especially if it involves Ajax). If you haven't seen it already, you might want to try Spoorloos also titled The Vanishing. Very good, albeit disturbing, film. Don't mistake it for the American remake, which is piss poor. It's in Dutch and French with English subtitles.

It's a sort of coming of age film really. Not much about Ajax but it's set in Amsterdam and one of the minor characters is a trainee for Ajax. I won't go into detail but if you search the title on www.imdb.com (excellent site) it'll tell you all about it with viewers reviews etc etc.

Small world ain't it. ;)

Didn't see you though, there were many greens and whites. This was also the last time you had a chance to see me there; next time I'll be sitting on the south side. Would have been nice to meet you though.

It's now official : French Ligue 1 has become the new Calcio.

The average # goals per game has fallen to 1.88 and the show is lamer than ever (it's never been really exciting but hell !!).

I noticed that a mention to the Ajax fire extinguishers were added to the footer disclaimer on www.ajaxusa.com.

This is funny because this is the brand that is in use at the Hotel Hortus in Amsterdam. I noticed that on my last trip :D

Yeah, in Latin countries you can hear that they yell "GOOOOOAALL!!"

Over here it's more like "YEEEEAAHHHH" or "YAAAAAAHHHHHHH" or something.

Here's how you celebrate a goal as a real Ajax fan: first you jump up and down and scream for a while (see above) - and then you say to the person next to you: "About f*cking time, eh? We looked like sh*t so far!"

:D

I can confirm that when Blackpool score the routine is to look for the old boy in the corner (the one with the shawl and the mug of tea) shaking your head and exclaiming that he probably remembers the last goal scored. :D Sorry to be a pedant, I know they speak Portuguese not Spanish but I'm sure in Brazil they scream "Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal, Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal, Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal " (or is that just the TV commentators)?

... which means you'll have the privilege to get pissed with a Froggie (Carcajou), a Cockney (SE6Ajacied), a horde of Cloggies (including Louis XIV, AFCA Madnezz and me) and quite probably one or two Jocks (including Jamcocteau) and possibly a Paddy named Bréandann.

Here's the plan...

Step 1: "God middag. Jag är törstig. En öl snälla. Bra, tack."

Step 2: :alc:

(repeat steps 1 and 2 25 times)

Step 3: "Ursäkta mig... Var är en toalett?"

And who knows, after enough repeats the Swedish might even improve?

My Swedish improves when I'm pissed, I must admit.

Seriously: I just Googled on 'Swedish phrases' or something. I knew I would find your average 'good afternoon, one beer please' type stuff that way...

Question to you: what's the difference between ö and ø. I think the Danes write øl for beer, whereas the Swedes write öl. My gut feeling tells me that ø is a more 'old fashioned' Nordic character (I've been told that Danish is a bit more of a 'pure', old skool language than Swedish). But I'm not sure.
