Bogdan Lobont
It must be said that Maarten Stekelenburg had two excellent saves in the first half, but nevertheless: welcome back, Boggy.
And, especially, thank you for saving our arses by stopping that penalty...

Diagnosis for Stekelenburg is not as bad as it looked: just a light concussion. I feared for the worst when he was carried away from the field on a stretcher. Somehow I feel sorry for Stekelenburg. He shows a lot of quality stopping balls but is so insecure when football skills are needed.
Anyway, Lobont looked like he has spend a lot of time weight lifting in the Gym! And was also playing pretty decent. He also shows a lot of power and encouragement to the other players. I think it's beneficial for the team when he's playing next week against psv.

How strange it is with our goalies, the last couple of years... they got injured periodically, and never gained the chance to play for an enitre season.
This time it's bad luck for Stekelenbutg. Ultimately, the last matches, it seemed as if he found himself some self-confidence. He wasn't doing a bad job. Nevertheless... Bogdan secured the three points.
Who will be our goalie when Maarten gets fit again? Tough choice for Krol...

Stekelenberg has more of a future primarily because he's younger, athletic, and you can't teach height. Still, I favor Boggy's experience over Stekelenbergs size, agility, and youth by a slim margin.Even if Boggy does look like a spastic windmill when trying to flag down some of the crosses he faces.Besides,Stekelenberg didn't get saddled with the unflattering Mistekelenberg nickname out of the ether.VONK to the rescue.

Maarten and Bogdan have proven not to be the top goalie that we need. Bogdan has been around long enough but I think maarten deserves the change to stay a bit longer.
I think we should definitely focus on getting a top notch keeper this summer and preferably someone youngish who could stay with us for a longer period of time.

he was the goalie in these season worst games: the first one against psv (where he made a stupid mistake for the first goal), the 4-0 against bayern and the one yesterday. Stekelenburg has also made mistakes I know (who can forget that goal maccabi scored in israel) but he has made more positive things. Lets remember that game against arsenal in the Amsterdam tournament, he was incredible. He showed in that game what he can offer to Ajax, lets give him the chance to continue growing as a goalkeeper. And also lets give Vermeer the chance to alternate in some games with Ajax. I dont think Vonk will stay with us next year, so Vermeer should take his place.

According to Romanian newspaper Ziua Bogdan Lobont may well become the successor of Edwin van der Sar at Fulham. The Premiership side are reportedly interested in Lobont's services. In the English press Fulham are also said to be interested in Norwich City goalkeeper Green, which is firmly denied by the club.
I still think Boggy will go this summer.

The story of Bogdan Lobont is very interesting.
He always gave reactions. Does anyone remenber when we utterly hated the guy for not being able to hold on to one single cross? I remember writing long posts about him sucking big time.
And then something happened. The guy suddenly started pleying like a real international GK, with some very good performances in our good CL run two seasons ago.
The last year he just seems to have faded away. Which is sad and a bit strange. He had the talent and I think that with some real support behind him from management he could have made a really good no1 keeper for years.
Now he will probably fade away on the bech in a semi good italian side (Luca Toni is great however)

In this week's Voetbal International Arie van Eijden is quoted saying that no clubs have contacted Ajax about Bogdan Lobont. Van Eijden says that Boggy will stay and that everything's open: the goalkeepers' hierarchy will be determined by their performances in pre-season.
For what it's worth, I might add. If some club does contact Ajax officially (possibly Palermo, if the press reports are to be believed), Ajax will be more than willing to have a chat about a transfer.
