Re: Ajax Coaches
We are looking at this a bit incorrectly right now. We need a coach who can get us out of relegation and at least into the top 6. The longer we wait, the harder that becomes.
We need to stop dreaming about 2nd and 3rd right now and worry about not ending in the bottom half.
If Van Gaal thinks he can manage Steijn and gets results from him by remote control, then so be it.

Re: Ajax Coaches
4th has to be the target. Playoffs would be so embarrassing.
Re: Ajax Coaches
At the moment we’re closer to relegation playoffs.
Re: Ajax Coaches
Just talking to my oldest son ,w ho lives down in Cornwall. First question when we turned to soccer was why has your coach not been sacked.Good question all we Ajax fans want to know that.I did say no idea who could take over!
Re: Ajax Coaches
Steijn is currently on holiday in Ibiza. Did the same in the Sept break. Let us hope he stays there, Dave Vos can take over temporary with Maduro
Re: Ajax Coaches
Van't Schip is appointed as the interim manager through the remainder of the season at which point he will move to the Technical staff which he was originally hired for. He is bringing his former assistant Michael Vlkanis in. No word on Maduro's future at this point.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: Ajax Coaches
Maduro is back as assistant and Dave Vos back at Jong.Welcome to John ,he is taking over a hell of a job even though he is going through sheer hell of losing his wife.He is putting himself through this for love of Ajax. Utter respect for him.
Fans saying his coaching record is not good enough.I have not read any fan on Showtime who comes up with who should take over.
Ajax have fallen to their lowest point in 123 years and have bought in far too many poor players. We now have a coach with Ajax DNA and a disciple of Johan . The fans must get behind our coach. If he can get us some wins and get us to halfway by Christmas we can then sell some of the poor signings from this summer and buy some quality experienced players especially in defence where only 17 year old Hato is good enough.

Re: Ajax Coaches
Yeah cannot imagine what Van't Schip is going through. He has all my support as we navigate through this year.
Very happy with what Maduro and Vos were able to do in just a week. Glad we've kept Maduro on as an assistant.
I think Ajax needs to figure out how to keep Vos closely aligned to the first team as well in addition to his duties and vice versa with Maduro with the Jong. We need to rebuild that connection which clearly has broken with Schreuder and Steijn.

Re: Ajax Coaches
this is just stupid. He's only going to coach through the end of this season. Better to take this approach than make a hurried decision on a manager that they will have to give a 3 year contract to.

Re: Ajax Coaches
Best thing I've read today. Brings tears to my eyes - https://twitter.com/AllAboutAjax/status ... 7418193921
John Van't Schip when asked "Why have you decided to accept this monstrous challenge?"
Van ‘t Schip: “Ajax is my club. Before my wife passed away, me and her discussed this a lot. It was her wish for me to help Ajax. This is my club and this is her club, our love started here …
… The decision is very easy. Ajax is my club and my wife gave me the approval from above. I know she is with me.”

Re: Ajax Coaches
Agree beautiful comments from John about his wife.
Re: Ajax Coaches
Also agree and hope that the ship can be turned around. Maybe first place is out of the question but the Eredivisie is a pretty strange league. Feyenoord lost yesterday and AZ was on the way to losing when Bas Dost collapsed on the pitch in the 90th minute. The game was halted and he was stretchered off, concious but as with the Ajax match, this was also abandoned with five mutes of extra time to play. Certainly the Beker will be in play and it would be great for Ajax to win at least one trophy this season.

Re: Ajax Coaches
Farioli has resigned which is no surprise. He quotes a difference with the Board on how they want to play next season ie more attacking and more Ajax.
Well that all well and good but we need quality attacking players and we have none.We need to sell a lot before buying anyone. Our only strength has been defence where Hato,Baas,Sutalo with Henderson at 6 have all been good.Apart from them only Taylor has had a decent season ,Weghorst a good sub but the rest are poor.
Farioli has done a great job with limited quality of players.I have always thought with an Italian coach we get defensive football and I was right .
Problem for Farioli Ajax stands for beautiful football and defensive Italian style is only fit for Feyenoord .
Thank you for giving us back CL getting them fit, getting the best out of them apart from the shambles NEC .We picked up many lucky points but luck ran out v Sparta and Sutalo with one bad action v Groningen.
Talk of Ten Hag or Simionse of GAE . I think ETH will be coach by next weekend and Tadic signed. An interesting summer awaits .

Re: Ajax Coaches
Do we really want to sign a 36 year old player who has no real position? How much is he going to cost? If this is the route Kroes is leading us down, I'm not sure that I want to follow.
I think my preference is for ten Hag as he is a proven winner at Ajax. Would Simionse buckle under the pressure as did Schreuder and Steijn (though Steijn was crippled by Mislintat's crazy trnansfers). I think they need to make a quick decision so that the new trainer can talk with all the players before they go on holiday and lay out his vision for the club. It would be good if all the young players can hang around for another season.

Re: Ajax Coaches
I too would go for ETH proven experience and a winner.Forget Manu , no one does well there. No way do we want Tadic back as a player.
Re: Ajax Coaches
Yet more strange behaviour by the board if you ask me. This is the only manager that has had a genuine positive impact on tactics and organisation at Ajax, maybe this century. (I know ten Hag was successful but he had a great squad to work with.)
Not sure what makes the board think they can tell Farioli how they want him to play. It sounds quite unhinged. Maybe they should go to the nearest burger joint and ask the chef to bring them raw sushi.

Re: Ajax Coaches
Very sorry to see Farioli go. He's done wonders with the players he had available. Playing attacking football should always be our goal, but for that you need the right kind of players. We tried playing attacking football with almost the same crew last year with disastrous results.
I'll always have a place in my heart for Farioli, for all that he has done for Ajax. Can't believe we tossed him out a day after the end of the season. That's shambolic. I assume (And hope) they've already been talking to ETH and he'll be announced shortly. Wonder what magic he can perform with a mediocre squad.

Re: Ajax Coaches
ten Hag may take the Leverkusen position if offered. If so, it will be either Reiziger or maybe even Heitinga.

Re: Ajax Coaches
It does seem that Ajax wanted him to play more attacking football but out top players are leaving and he felt the squad will be weaker. He was told we will bring in 1 winger plus Faberski, who is still not doing well enough at Jong. Our wingers are a disaster and not one of them would get in Utrecht who have 2 quick decent ones. ( I will say I dont like inverted wingers Robben started all that.)
Think ETH should come back but we have so many rubbish players to get rid of . Reading Showtime everyone wants Kroes out but it is still going to take another year to clear up Mislintat's mess.

Re: Ajax Coaches
I really can't take another year of the same players with Heitinga as coach.
Re: Ajax Coaches
Heitinga is Slot's #2 at Liverpool for what that is worth.

Re: Ajax Coaches
I think it's too soon to make any judgement on Kroes. I did a post a while back listing all the Overmars transfers. He bought a number of clinkers and some of his moves ended up brilliant but at the time were panned (Tadic being the prime example). The 2019 CL team had Tadic, Ziyech, Blind, Neres, Tagliafico and Schone who were all transfers in. Only Ziyech and Neres were top rated at the time of arrival. Onana came over as a 'youth' and played for Jong Ajax mainly. Everyone else came up through the system
Found the Overmars list!!!!! (large number of Mislintat worthy horrible players)
Just for fun I compiled the following list of Ajax players brought into the club during Marc Overmars term as technical director. I cannot claim this is 100% accurate and I've not included a bunch of youth players who moved to the Ajax academy as 16 year olds. Some of the players were also older and bought as a one or two year stop gap. While there were some outstanding purchases, there were also a bunch of lemons. Maybe some of this is due to poor scouting or a panic buy but the over all record is indeed quite spotty. I put an asterisk after those transfers that I believe were outstanding for the team based on player performance and sell on value.
Sana van der Hoorn Lerin Duarte Poulsen Sigthorrson Onana* Viergever Sinkgraven Milik* Zivkovic Gudelj Younes Davison Sanchez* Westermann Frenkie de Jong* Schone* Cassieria Ziyech* Orejuela Taliafico* Wober Neres*
Varela Blind* Magallan Labyad Bande Danilo Lassana Traore Tadic* Scherpen Alvarez* Perie Marin L. Martinez* Promes Gorter Antony* Pasveer Klaiber Schuurs Berghuis*

Re: Ajax Coaches
Simonis extended with Go Ahead Eagles. Reiziger extended with Jong Oranje. ten Hag signed by Leverkusen. Who is possibly left for Ajax to get? Marcel Keizer has been mentioned but he had a bad experience the last time (in part because of the Nouri tragedy).
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!
Re: Ajax Coaches
It always seems like a bit of a shambles with this club.
The situation is not that different to 2 years ago - no coach and a squad that’s nowhere near CL level. You can see why no one would be rushing to take over.
If the disagreement with Farioli was really over staffing and professionalism I don’t think the club made a good call. I assume the lesson about panic buying players has been learnt, at least!

Re: Ajax Coaches
Looks like Johnny Heitinga with Marcel Keizer and Dave Vos . Just read comments on Showtime and fans are not happy. Heits did not do that great as temporary coach but has been assistant at West Ham and Liverpool and must surely have got a lot of experience.Keizer never had a chance and had to deal with the terrible events of Appie.
Will wait and see but we need to get some attacking quality and play attacking football. Farioli was a complete unknown and did a good job but the football was rubbish to watch and in the end he takes a lot of the blame for us bottling the title.
PS I am not at all happy with these 2 taking over and had hoped for possibly Knutsen of Bodo Glimt
