Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax ladies playing with 10 following a 21st minute dismissal snatch a goal in the 88th minute and win the match 1-0. I watched from the 40th minute on and it was clear that Ajax was prepared only to defend the draw having lost Van Den Bighelaar but they got the ball forward late and a nice header from Linda Bakker hit the left upright and bounced into the net for the only goal of the match. It wasn't pretty but Ajax now go to Brescia in a fortnight to see if they can advance to the round of 16. I think there are three or four players from the Dutch NT that won the Euro this summer on the Ajax starting team.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Missed the match as I could not find a stream. Ajax ladies lost the away game to Brecia 0-2 and are out of the CL.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Turn about is fair play. Ajax ladies won the Beker defeating PSV 1-2. I caught the last 20 minutes and Ajax looked threatening on several occasions but could not get the third goal. Congrats to them for picking up the Cup.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax women remain undefeated in league play, beating PSV 1-0 today. Romee Leuchter got the goal with a free kick. Next weekend they play the other unbeaten team, FC Twente. I hope it is on television as this Ajax team is really a good side.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax Women's team is currently up 0-3 away in Zurich in the UWCL. At least some Ajax teams still know how to win.
Re: Ajax Women's Team
Up 0-5 now! Can we have them play in the Eredivisie for us?
Re: Ajax Women's Team
they were totally dominant. Hat trick from Leuchter!! They should qualify for the CL now.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Leuchter with two goals today as Ajax win the return tie 2-0 and move on into the group stage of the Champions League for the first time. Unfortunately, they have a low coefficient rating and will not be seeded highly. Let's hope they get a favorable draw and can make it to the group stage!!!!

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax got a terrible draw in the CL with Bayern, Paris Saint Germain and AS Roma in their group. It's going to be very challenging for them to even win a match against these teams but strange things happen. We can hope for big crowds in the Johan Cruyff Arena for the home matches. FC Twente did not make it through so the chance for more Coefficient Points is limited.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Good to see Ajax women doing well
Re: Ajax Women's Team
Leuchter and Hoekstra each hit the goal twice and Ajax win on the road against Fortuna Sittard 0-4. They are in fourth with 10 points but have two games in hand over three of the top teams.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
The Ajax Ladies host Paris Saint Germain this Wednesday in the Champions League. Match will be played in the Johan Cruyff Arena and it will be interesting to see the size of the crowd. Ajax are underdogs as PSG has a number of Internationals including Jackie Groenen and Lieke Martens-van Leer from the Dutch NT. I think the match will be televised but I don't have any details on that right now.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax up 2-0 at the half over PSG. Good to see some real Ajax football being played!

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Epic win by the Ajax Ladies, 2-0 over PSG. Two first half goals, Hoekstra off a rebound and Spitse from the spot were enough. Ajax defended well and had some outstanding goalkeeping from van Eijk and are at the top of the group as Bayern and Roma drew 2-2. WOTM for me was winger Chastity Grant who was tough on the ball, not getting dispossessed and defending superbly. This is a super young team aside from Spitse and can only get better if they can keep their key players. Suzanne Bakker had her team well set up for the match and subbed off the tired players down the stretch.
Player Ratings:
van Eijk (7) - she had a horrible moment early in the match venturing out into nowoman's land, leaving the goal wide open but the PSG shot was welll over the crossbar but she redeemed herself with a great save late in the 2nd half keeping the ball from going over the line
Kaardinal (5) - really not very good as she was constantly getting beat
Spitse (8) - had a couple of uncharacteristic poor passes but was calm from the spot and defended exceptionally well
De Sanders (7.5) - defended well with some good clearances
Weerden (6) - drew the foul in the box for the PK but had some pretty awful passes leaving PSG open for some counters
Noordam (7) - really strong as the holding MF
van Gool (7) - consistent
Yohannes (7) - hard to believe she is just 16 years old, had a couple of picture perfect through passes to the forwards; she should have done better when she got the ball deep and in front of goal
Grant (8.5) - just a super all around game
Leuchter (7) - got the ball in some promising situations and it was her hard shot that ricocheted off to Hoekstra for the first goal
T. Hoekstra (7) - well taken goal
Keijzer (5.5) - on for Kaardinal at RB and did OK
van de Velde (6) - on for Noordam who was carrying a YC and defended well
Noordman (5.5) - on for van Gool and defended well
Sabajo (5.5) - on for Yohannes
I. Hoekstra (NR) - on late for her namesake and had a break but wasn't strong enough to stay ahead of the defender
Roma up next away.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
A tired Ajax squad defeated AZ in Alkmaar 1-2 today. It was the fourth match in 10 days for Suzanne Bakker's team and a number of starters were either rested or only played a half. All the goals came in the 2nd half with de Klonia and Yohannes finding the net for Ajax. Ajax remain in 2nd place five points behind Twente who have yet to drop points in the league.

Euro doubleheader tonight. Ajax women are at Bayern Munich in the early game followed by the men's Europa home match against AEK. The Champions League match with the ladies is on several different channels if you have IPTV.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax ladies defended well and come away from Munich with a 1-1 draw; a point well deserved. They couldn't get the ball into Leuchter but a late first half goal by Grant equaled the score. van Eijk was solid in the goal and Spitse, always good on the ball anchored the back line.
Player Ratings:
van Eijk (7) - except for one hard shot that she parried against the cross bar, there was nothing more than routine saves to make
Keijzer (7) - solid game at RB defending well
Spitse (8) - rock solid and I think she had only one bad pass all evening
de Sanders (5.5) - poor coverage on the Bayern goal and she tends to get caught up field too much
Weerden (5.5) - gave the ball up foolishly on a couple of occasions but was good in the last 20 minutes when it counted
van Gool (7.5) - quite good on the night doing defensive duties
Noordam (8) - WOTM for me with her all over the pitch performance, making some key passes, interceptions and challenges
Yohannes (6.5) - decent enough game but a rash challenge drew a deserved YC
Grant (7) - got the crucial goal in the first have to even the score
Leuchter (5.5) - modest rating through no fault of her own, her teammates could not get her the ball
Hoekstra (5.5) - not much of a factor on the left wing
Noordman (6) - on for Yohannes and defended well
Kardinaal (6) - more calm a defender than De Sanders on the night
Keukalaar (6) - on for Grant and had a couple of good runs with the ball but needs to know where the passing options are
Verhoeve (NR) - on late
Bayern up again next week in the Cruyff Arena. Hope for a decent crowd.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax ladies take on Bayern Munich tomorrow in the Cruyff Arena. The group is pretty tight with Bayern at 5, Ajax & Roma at 4 and PSG at 3 points. Ajax are playing above their weight so far with the youngest club in the competition. I hope to see a good crown in the Arena for this one.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Tonight's CL match with Bayern should be mandatory watching by all members of the Ajax men's team. The Ajax ladies delivered a clinical performance with full Ajax-style football from the opening kickoff until the final whistle. They attached the ball at every chance keeping Bayern on the back foot and Leuchter's first half goal stood up even with the visitors pressing for an equalizer in the 2nd half. It's amazing to think that outside of Spitse, this is a team of mainly teenagers and players in their very early 20s, most of whom are playing at this level for the very first time. Major kudos to trainer Suzanne Bakker for getting the team ready to play!!!
Player Ratings:
van Eijk (7) - solid match but really had nothing difficult to save and was alert to coming to get every ball delivered into the box
Keijzer (7.5) - great game by the RB and had a decent chance on goal
Spitse (8) - still is one of the best passers of the ball in all of football
de Sanders (7.5) - did not make any reckless runs into the offensive half and defended well
Weerden (7.5) - amazing game from someone who has been very error prone in possession, defended well and had a rocket that caromed off the cross bar in the first half
van Gool (7.5) - so much better than Tahirovic that it is laughable, great field sense and defened well
Nordam (8) - just won't stop running and is maybe the best pressing MF on the club
Yahannes (7) - youngest player on the club at 16 but she controls the ball just like Andrea Pirlo did, she had an open goal to but her shot was just high of the cross bar; subbed off in the 2nd half
Grant (7.5) - she has given opponents a difficult time in this tournament, strong on the ball and can beat players with pace
Leucter (8) - WOTM, with a cutting run that even Erling Haaland would be jealous of, picking up the pass and coolly shooting the ball pas the keeper and into the left corner
Hoekstra (6) - tracked back well but had few touches on offense
Noorman (6.5) - on for Yohannes and defended well
van de Velde (NR) - on late for van Gool and helped out with the defense
Keukelaar (NR) - on for Hoekstra and had a couple of touches
Ajax are now top of the table as PSG dispatched Roma who visit the Arena in late January.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Wow, this is totally weird. Suzanne Bakker who won the Ladies Eredivisie last season and led Ajax into the CL Group state this season will not have her contract renewed after this season. She said this came as a big surprise. I wonder if there is something more here?

Re: Ajax Women's Team
Ajax women travel to Paris to take on PSG in the Champions League. There is some turmoil right now as Suzanne Bakker's contract as trainer is not going to be renewed this summer. Don't know what the impact will be on the club. Ajax top the group at present but it's still wide open. A win means they will move onto the KO round.

Re: Ajax Women's Team
All to play for today when Ajax take on Roma in the Cruyff Arena. This group is very tight with all four teams having a chance to go through. A win By Ajax sends them through regardless of the result in the PSG - Bayern match. A draw can also send them through providing PSG defeat or draw with Bayern. However, that match is in Munich and the home crowd may have an impact.Ajax have had the largest crowds as all their matches have been in the Cruyff Arena.
