How many matches fall into that category? Not too many, I'd imagine. I guess those trips to Russia, but everything else he can manage with having to leave a day early at the worst.

I thought that Serero was ok as a defensive mid. From what I could see through my halting stream was a team that was frustratingly reactive and lacked a certain amount of initiative. Nonetheless, I'm glad Milik scored and that we got three points.

... I think the reality of the modern game is such that no team outside of the big four leagues is ever going to be competitive in Europe. Ajax would need a to spend a lot more money over a sustained period of time to do that and could well end up bankrupted from the effort with nothing to show for...

It doesn't have to be a black or white situation. There are many clubs that manage to strike a better balance between financial responsibility and fielding a strong team.
