Hey gents! Up at 5am to watch this one live from not yet sunny California! Hup Ajax!

I never saw him play. I never met him (though he did wink at me once from a balcony of De Toekomst). But his influence on Ajax, and on football, was immense. My son Ryan has only ever worn #14 in homage to the legend. He epitomized greatness and originality.

A few comments from the Cali coast… #1, nobody mentioned it, but I thought Ajax started well. Not a judgment on the tactics, but the players looked well up for it for the first 15-20 minutes. Yes indeed. He's a humble and very decent human being. We had him over for dinner a few years ago, and he asked the boys if they wanted to play soccer. HE asked THEM. They were over the moon. Check it out.
