Vertonghen has been a good player for us and will be difficult to replace. I think his best position is holding midfielder and I thought that's what he plays for Belgium. Too bad we haven't had proper central defenders the last few years or else I think we could have used him in that role.

I hope it was cheap too, but I think we need a solid central defender with some experience to back up the Belgians (if they are both here next year). He fits that and he's not been terrible in the matches he has played this season.

Update on the Bas Dost case: He lost the arbitration hearing, so Heerenveen won't be forced to sell him. Telegraaf is reporting, though, that he is undergoing a physical at Ajax in the case that Ajax decide to spend 7M Euros on the transfer. Seems a bit high, especially if he doesn't end up working ...
