Ajax are back from De Lutte. Time for the trip to Scotland (and time to talk about football again, after the 'nightmare of Deventer'...).

Rangers FC vs Ajax should be a nice one. Venue: Ibrox. Kick-off time: 19.45 local time.

my impression is that nothing's new
still the same slow game as many last season.
still big holes in the defence where rangers could easily score another 2-3.
in the first half ajax had only one shot on target and one header outside from huntelaar who touched the ball maybe 5 times in the whole game.
on the good note Goosens looked good when he got the ball , he's got the skills and Romedahl did some nice things including an assist to heitinga.
Yeah i know its only the first game against a professional side but still
they got to improve big time. :ajaxscarf.gif:

Typical pre-season friendly. Both teams still a bit sloppy.

Rangers were the clearly dominant side for about an hour. They deserved their 1-0 lead and could have made it 2-0 or even 3-0. Easily.

Ajax's best phase were the latter 20 or 25 minutes, in which they had Rangers by the throat and played the best football of the evening, albeit briefly. And Kennedy had a massive chance to make it 1-2.

All in all: interesting game (which is not the same thing as a good game) and, all in all, a reasonable Ajax performance, given the fact that they played without Davids for the first time, and without Stam and Gabri, too.

The result was as good as could be realistically expected . Three key players out , a different formation , two key players ( Kennedy and Rommedahl ) getting used to the players around them , and a CL quality opponent = best case draw . Totally satisfied as a supporter. Glad Goossens played decently.

What I like about Goossens is that he has guts. It was his first big game and he's only 18 years old, but he takes on his man like he just don't care. I like that. He has the sassiness that we all want to see from an Ajax rookie.

He didnt really impress. He rarely passed the ball
forward and when he did it rarely came through
but he's fast and strong and definitley can earn a place in the team
