Our new Spanish striker. Henk ten Cate wanted an experienced, physically strong battering ram, not as a starter, but as a back-up option. Urzaiz, 35, is exactly that.

News report to appear on Ajax USA later today!

Well, a friend of mine who is from Bilbao, told me that Urzaiz saved Athletic from relegation last year. He can't be that bad then. Back in the day Urzaiz was a really good CF. I sort of had lost touch with his career over the years.

Also - given that our last old pinch hitter was Anastasiou(nothing against the guy), Urzaiz is so much better.

Also, he is very fit. Not some old-timer who will run out of fuel after 20 minutes.

I watched La Liga on Gol TV . Athletic , with their passionate fan base , has been a La Liga favorite of mine for about 5 years. I like the move. You cannot teach height , and Ismael Urzaiz has that in spades. A two meter target man is definitely a nice addition. And, as said previously , a talented two meters ; one with alot of highest level match experience.

And he didn't cost jack. Always good to have someone like him.

He's not exactly 2 metres, more like 1.88m. But he is a very strong guy according to a couple of pictures i've seen.

His introduction into a match should create potential match up problems on set pieces. Urzaiz , Huntelaar ,. Stam . Good options. Hopefully Sneijder will still be around to deliver the ball .

Urzaiz joined Ajax? If he's as good as he was a few seasons ago when Bilbao was rocking La Liga, that's good news.

From another thread...

Urzaiz isn't 100% recovered from his operation. Despite positive exclamations on his health by Van Geel, Urzaiz has some pains and conditional setbacks. He's not ready yet, we haven't seen the real Urzaiz.

That's right. Give the guy a break. I could already sense the sarcasm at the ArenA last Sunday, and I hated it.

You can't expect much from Urzaiz. He's the type to replace Huntelaar in a game thats as good as over for Ajax, and KJH could use some rest. Or when things are desperate and you need an extra foward just to be there. At least he's been winning all headers for Ajax.
