No Eredivisie football in the weekend of 07/08 October (Euro 2008 qualifiers!). Ajax's first league game after 'Utrecht away' is the home game against FC Groningen - on a Saturday evening!

Well the 'pool are up to sixth bottom after two straight 3-0 wins (did anyone else see the demolition of Brighton live on Sky?) so I'm starting to feel very optimistic about football again.

Back to Ajax, I'm really looking forward to this one, my first live game of the season :cheer: so I'm predicting another 3-0 win.

See you all (well some of you anyway) on Saturday.

Okay the game against "The pride of the north". Hopefully we can keep up the momentum we've gathered after defeating Utrecht. Does anybody know how KJH is doing??

There's an interview with him on Ajax.nl today. He's back in training with the group and he can do almost everything, except shooting full force. He's recovering well and almost ready to play, but Groningen will come too early. We'll have him back for the Classic, though! :cheer:

I'll be in A'dam for this one.

Apparently De Hems are showing some live Eredivisie games through Tele2.NL (You need to check the website to see which games though and I've not checked to see if this is actually happening)

Will Ten Cate go back to 4-3-3 or will he form the team like he did vs Utrecht?

Looks like KJH is ready to start against Groningen. Ajax played a 442 with him and Rosenberg up front during Friday's pratice session. Rosales may not be fit in time. Sneijder, Babel, Manucharyan and Vermaelen got Friday off after their international games earlier this week.

What the hell is happening here? 1-2 - we gave up two goals in like 5 minutes.

I bet it was Vermaelens fault on atleast one of the occasions, he should be axed!

Yeah, it doesn't look good. Although Ajax is getting chances at a goal.

2-2 Babel.

Great goal from Urby ... approaching the D he fires home a bullet of a goal

First Gron. goal from a spot kick ... foul by Gabri or Jabari as the Chinese pronounce it :D

second Gron. goal ... complete fuck up between Stam and steke . Stam and Steke both take some blame for the goal, but I think Stam deserves more flack for not hoofing the ball into touch. He stepped aside allowing Suarez to run clean through and compete for the ball ... Steke failed to clear ... and Bingo 1:2 Groningen.

Clever foul by Hunter on the keeper for Babel's second?

Well...we cant keep on conceding silly goals like those...I mean we might get away with it in eredivisie, but if we want to win the Uefa cup, our back five need to straighten up, thats my analogy.

Lay of the hatred for Vermaelen, Ayman . Thomas played a decent match and was not involved in either of Groningen's goals.

This was a wonderful, wonderful game of football. Entertaining, spectacular, dramatic. There were goals, there were unexpected twists and turns, there were mistakes - what more can a fan ask for...?

And - most importantly - the game got the winner it deserved. I think Ajax played a very good game. The fact that it was tight, really says something about Groningen, who were a strong and solid opponent.

I had a tremendous evening. Utrecht vs Ajax, Ajax vs Groningen... If we could have a game like this every week in the Dutch Eredivisie, that would be great. And I am not saying that only because we won both fixtures. I just love real games. And tonight's match was exactly that: a real game.

K.

Wonder when SE6Ajacied and SwedishFan will be sober enough to share their insights with us. I can imagine them feeling ripped with a 1-2 score because travelling far for a home game and then facing a loss sucks intensily. To still be able to leave the stadium at 3-2 definitley calls for a celebration. :bier:
