The J.C. Shield!

Game is played at the ArenA, but Ajax are formally the 'away team' for this one, that's why it's PSV - Ajax. Same J.C. Shield bill as last year.

Huntelaar is suspended for this match. In the cup final he received his second yellow card in that tournament and these cards count for this match. Wonder whether we will see Charisteas up front in his place. Or otherwise maybe Babel or Rosenberg.

I don't think we see Charisteas, as he is 5th in rank under HtC.

Do you think we'll see Rosenberg instead?

Perhaps a front line of (from r to l):

Rosales - Rosenberg - Perez

Or will Babel be in there somewhere?

I guess it will be Rosenberg.

If we're still trying to sell Charisteas this month , why not showcase him ?

Ajax test looming for Koeman
Confidence may be scarce when the Dutch Super Cup between champions PSV Eindhoven and cup winners AFC Ajax marks the start of the new season.

Bumper crowd
The 'Johan Cruijff Schaal' is expected to draw a 42,000 crowd to the Amsterdam ArenA, but neither PSV's new coach Ronald Koeman nor his Ajax counterpart Henk Ten Cate were discussing victory as they eyed their first domestic fixture of 2006/07. Koeman, who has played for and managed both PSV and Ajax, arrived to replace Guus Hiddink over the summer when the experienced trainer took charge of the Russia national team and has seen some key players depart ahead of the big kick-off.

Ins and outs
Fans' favourite Theo Lucius has joined Feyenoord, Johan Vonlanthen left for FC Salzburg while second-choice goalkeeper Edwin Zoetebier switched to NAC Breda. Oscar Moens of Willem II has inherited Zoetebier's gloves, while PSV have also signed Portuguese defender Manuel da Costa from AS Nancy-Lorraine and Mexico defender Carlos Salcido from CD Guadalajara.

Suspended players
In addition, goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, Jason Culina and Lee Nguyen are suspended while André Ooijer is injured. With all that upheaval, and Ajax having launched their UEFA Champions League qualifying bid with a 2-1 win at FC København on Wednesday, Koeman is keeping his ambitions low. "Ajax have reinforced their team and have already played a competitive match this week," he said. "We have not, so maybe they have a slight advantage. But that will only become clear on Sunday. In any case, the game will help us gauge where we stand at national level."

'Evenly matched'
Having scored twice in Copenhagen, Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will sit out the Super Cup because of a ban, leaving Ten Cate - who has succeeded Danny Blind - to conclude: "The absence of Gomes and Huntelaar keeps the sides evenly matched." Ajax have also lost Hans Vonk, Hatem Trabelsi, Steven Pienaar, Nourdin Boukhari, Juanfran, Yannis Anastasiou and captain Tomás Galásek since the end of last term, but have made heavyweight signings in Jaap Stam from AC Milan, Kenneth Perez (AZ Alkmaar), Dennis Gentenaar (BV Borussia Dortmund), George Ogararu (FC Steaua Bucaresti), Gabri (FC Barcelona) and Roger García (Villarreal CF).

Trophy target
Nonetheless, Ten Cate still rates PSV as favourites. "PSV have a good, experienced team who have only become stronger in recent weeks," he said. "Ajax do not start as favourites. A big task awaits us, but in the end only one thing will matter on Sunday - standing with the trophy in our hands."

Not having The Hunter available to torment PSV again sucks . Glad that PSV are supposedly without Gomes , Ooijer , Culina, Affelay , and Beasley .A De Telegraaf story , linked on Ajax Netwerk, is where I saw mention of Beasley and Affelay .

Does anyone know if this will be shown on the web anywhere?

I really hope Ajax can get this one. I'm going through a bit of a footie crisis at the moment. Blackpool lost at home today which leaves them second bottom, played 3, lost 3, scored 0, goals against 4, points 0.

We have a new Latvian owner - who said all Eastern European owners bought success with them X'C ?

Congrats AJAX! Great to see Rosales, Perez , and Sneijder pick up the slack in Hunter's absence .

I wonder why Perez waited so long to have an impact on the match? THAT IS A JOKE! On on 68'. Scores on 69'. :headbang: How was his overall performance in the other 20 plus minutes he played?

Perez played with a bit more urgency this time, just felt that his energy levels vary from time to time.

Beating PSV is always good no matter when or where it happens, this just raises our confidence level for the upcoming games. The season is looking good ;)

Keep it up Ajax. :xyxthumbs:
