... and an individual thread for Kenneth Perez!

Just like Jaap Stam and Dennis Gentenaar he will officially be an Ajacied on 01 July!

Kenneth Perez announced international retirement! He said it was a great thing for him to play in national squad, but it's the best time to resign and give the place in the team to younger players. He also said that now he will do his best to be a first team player in Ajax.

For me it is a bit strange decission... He is not very old (31 years) and didn't have many serious injuries, so he could play more in Denmark (he stops at 19 games and 2 goals). On the other hand it is better for Ajax, because he won't be as tired as the rest of the players which play in Ajax and national teams.

Is this guy still an automatic first teamer?

From all that I've read, he's been unimpressive thus far.

I imagine it is probably a bit early to make that determination. But who knows what HtC has planned. I'd imagine he'll wait a few weeks for him to find his form before axing him.

FWIW I thought he looked ok in spurts against Man U. I didn't see the FCK game, though.

We need to give him some time, imean even Huntelaar had some crap games at the start, he just needs a little time and patience.

About 2½ months into his contract and a handful of games into the season: What is the impression so far?

I think he has struggled to fit in so far, but I was impressed with the 20 minutes he put in against Vitesse. From what I've seen, his niche is behind the strikers, putting in through balls and coming out on the wings for crosses. He put in one through ball to Rosales that was just divine, but Rosales couldn't do anything with (I think that is what happened).

Once he finds his feet, he will be useful indeed. I think he and Gabri are going to have a tremendous competition for the central midfield spot.

He's probably injured. Anyway, it won't be a big blow for Ajax if Mitea plays. But I'm afraid that Mitea also won't play against Start because of recovering after last injury...

Yeah, he picked up a back injury. Nothing too serious, but he failed the last test prior to departure. He's expected to be ready for Roda on Sunday (which might well be a tougher game than IK Start anyway...).

Perez substitute Markus Rosenberg has just scored, what irony right ??? The left wing position looks too be a very competitive one  . Although Rosey scored from the right wing after switching sides with Babel.

Our left wing doesn't like so good in my opinion. We have only 2 typical wingers (Perez and Mitea) and a few players which *can* play on the left side, but their natural position is different (Babel, Rosenberg = strikers, Rosales = right winger). Left side looks great when Mitea is in form, but it happens rarely because of his injuries  .

Dont forget about Manucharyan and even Krohn-Deli  .

The 'Perez scandal'... Very regrettable. I think we should discuss this in this thread rather than in the Twente match thread, so I am re-posting this here...

Ajax striker apologises over racial abuse of linesman

AMSTERDAM, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Ajax Amsterdam striker Kenneth Perez has apologised for racially abusing a linesman during the match against Twente Enschede last week.

'I regret what I said...Everyone who knows me, knows I am not a racist,' Perez told Talpa TV on Sunday, adding the incident happened in the heat of the moment.
...

Not very classy. I do find it strange how so many players who get caught giving racist comments come out with the "Everyone who knows me, knows I am not a racist." line. Well then, why did you say it?

Yes, that's very sad. He's a great player for us but frankly there's far too much of this in football. If the words are not there and you never use that language then frankly it won't come out in the heat of the moment. Will he get a ban - he should!

Sometimes the game emotions go in wrong way, and these things happen... We are not so shocked when supporters do it to deconcentrate the rivals, but it is really sad when players use them. I believe that Perez didn't want to hurt him, he's not that kind of man... Anyway, it happened and he has to be punished for that.

Well, back in the day when I played competitive football, I was one of those guys who had a rep for sometimes going over the top, the old ‘red-mist’ would come down and I would say a lot of nasty, basic, anglo-saxon stuff in the general direction of those I was angry with. However I never, ever, once used racist derogatory terms (unless you consider the term ‘southern wanker’ racist) or even terms that could be construed as racist – no matter how angry I got. Basically, because I’m not a racist.

I guess if Perez says he’s not a racist scumball we have to believe him, but I have to say I don’t hold with this “in the heat of the battle, non-racists sometimes say racist things” theory. So as far as I’m concerned he’s on probation.

According to De Telegraaf Kenneth Perez can count on at least five games' suspension plus a fine of 12,000 euros. Those are the new UEFA rules for acts of racism/discrimination in football.

Whatever the verdict will be: accept it! No appeals, please. Keep your dignity, count to ten, bow your head and accept.

Well, they didn't create anything in the last four games anyway, so let's see what happens... Can't go any worse than against the two Spartas.

I say: time for some Roger thru-ball magic!

let's get rid of Perez at the winter break : no matter how well he plays, we can not afford to shelter a racist

Have you led a blameless life?

We are all capable of stupid and crass behaviour. Perez had the good grace to apologise unequivocally.

Why question the sincerity of his apology?

anyone anywhere else for any other job would be sacked for this; he is sorry, so what ? what else could he say ?

I don't want Ajax reputation to be ruined by a racist (imagine he did this during an international game ...)

:blackcat:

I remember all the drama 2 years ago on this forum because of a 0,50 square meter 10 mn life long banner about Kalou ... strange days

it seems that Perez got 5 games suspension plus a fine, not enough, and Ajax might as well sell him, he will not be missed

:kloguck:
