... and we play for a 'round of sixteen' encounter with the winners of Spartak Moscow vs Celta de Vigo.

Very driveable indeed. For me it's closer than Amsterdam :D

It was one of the tougher opponents in our bowl (probably the toughest one, actually), but what the hell: I quite like this one and I look forward to the trip!

We are toast! Of all the teams in the whole UEFA Competition, Werder Bremen! They should have advanced but they got stuck in the hardest group in the CL.

Why the hell did we not play like crap against Zulte Wargem? What kind of a stupid set up has the 2nd Place have to face the CL Dropouts? It should be 1st vs 2nd and then the 3rd Place plays the CL Dropouts! They should change the system, IMO.

cdnajaxfan - it's better to beat Werder Bremen than a crappy team ;). I know that we have the most difficult rival, but it doesn't mean that we'll lose this game.

Well Ten Cate better ask Rijkaard some advice after they had a hard time qualifying because off this team. Too be the best you got too beat the best, well there you go, now we`ll face the best. Dont know if we`ll beat 'em though. Lets hope what Ten Cate says about being in top form in february is correct

Werder Bremen...I'm kind of glad. They are probably the second or third best side along with Sevilla and Tottenham, and it's good to have a strong test early. I know Bremen are favourites, but we can beat them.

Over 2 legs we shouldn't fear this side at all - bring it on. :headbang:

It could not be harder as they are the best team in the competition. Had they been in any other group they would have qualified and on form probably one of the top 10 sides in Europe.

However football is a strange game and we can still produce a shock. At least there will be plenty of Ajax fans going to Germany. I doubt whether any of you fancied going to Moscow in Feb!!!!

easy one :hypocrite:

just illustrates what stupid kind of calculation it was to be glad to play the UEFA rather than the CL because it is so much easier

Why would it be a shock? I don't think they're that much better than us.

Nice one!

I was very happy when I saw it's going to be Bremen. As others have said, if you really went to improve and test yourself, you have to play against tougher competition. Realistically, I think Bremen are probably three-goal favorites over the aggregate, but it's a challenge, I'm excited, and I hope the team gets up for it!

So Werder Bremen? I have a friend who's a fan of Werder, he told me it would be a piece of cake as Ajax has recently been, and let me quote him here "a piece of crap of a team in the past few years". Would be fun to knock them out.

The worst thing is that the first game against Werder Bremen we'll play without Huntelaar. He will have a breat because of yellow cards...

Hey !! one things for sure this tie is going too be one hell of a goal fest, both teams play exciting ofensive football. Expect high scoring and lots of action in this one ;) .
I really feel this can by the tip off the mountain for us, it may be the hardest part but if we make it too the summit we`ll be steamrolling til the end :headbang:

I`m getting pumped for this one. ;)

Indeed, Huntelaar is suspended... But i think Ajax will play in a 4-4-2 sytem, so Rosenberg will be a good replacement, together with or Babel or Perez.

if we want win against werder in spring, we have not to lose our key players on winter transfer windows. it's gonna be bedificult because i think that grygera and rosenberg can leave..
