Ah yes, the media's interpretation. Gotta love 'em.

This article is from Goal.com, so that says everything.

I read goal.com for a laugh but do sometimes make a comment where Ajax is concerned( I would not waste my time on any other soccer story)
and what they are putting is a load of old crap, which is most of the time.

Pleased to see the real comments of Gabri here.

Was Gabri a bit injured and not able to go from the start, or is he slowly (or not so slowly) losing favor somewhat with MVB? Enoh looks so outstanding that it seems he is set to play when healthy. I thought Lindgren would be the one to lose the most time once Enoh returned. It was a real surprise to see Gabri on the bench at the start of such a big game.

He was still on at crunch time, 1:1. As long as he doesn't get attitudinal about his playing time, he could be a very valuable ace in the hole. You can't teach the level of he experience he, or Rommedahl for that matter, possess.

Great game; great goal...

... great actor! :smallgrin.gif:

Check this out: the new TV commercial for Albert Heijn (Holland's largest chain of supermarkets). They're doing some kind of Eredivisie sticker collection campaign, or whatever it is, and the accompanying commercial features folks such as Sparta coach Foeke Booy (as the truck driver!), FC Groningen head-coach Ron Jans (cleaning the floor) and players such as Geert den Ouden (De Graafschap), Sparta Mounir El Hamdaoui (AZ), Kenneth Perez (FC Twente), Ricky van den Bergh (Heracles), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord) and... our man Gabri, all starring as Albert Heijn supermarket staff.

Nice one.

The advert was on the sopcast stream yesterday. I knew Gabri and Perez so thanks for filling me in on the others.

ps. it was good to get a stream on sopcast again as you get a proper picture. The last 4/5 games before Xmas I had to put up with justintv.

sopcast was excellent yesterday. i tested the record option, which worked really well. it actually was a better stream than direct feed, not sure if it works from the cache etc. But it was nice to actually see the game for once.

Here's hoping Ron Jans sees another floor mopping next weekend, Ajax mopping the floor with The Green Army.

According to goal.com, Espanyol would like to take Gabri, either on loan for the rest of the year or outright. I can't imagine we will sell him (possibly in the summer, but not now), and he says he's happy hear. I wouldn't expect anything to happen from it.

Looks like Gabri has a slightly torn calf and will be out for about 3 weeks. I thought he had been playing well (at least in more control) recently. I also think his experience is valuable in a team like this. I'm hoping this, with Vertonghen, isn't the start to another big injury crisis like we had earlier in the year.

Gabri picked up a knock on the ankle in yesterday's Young Ajax match. I saw it happen. It was a pretty heavy tackle and he was in pain. He had to be carried off.

The ankle will be checked today, but it did not look good and he is expected to be out for a while. Bad news, even though he didn't start in the last Ajax-1 game.

The bright side of this is that we have a more depth at midfield than at any other position, and the Anita-Aissati-Enoh midfield has been playing well of late.

From Ajax.nl:

Ajax and Umm-Salal FC have agreed on the terms of Gabri's immediate transfer to the Qatar club

Gabri (Gabriel García de la Torre) was born on 10 February 1979. He joined Ajax in the summer of 2006, coming from FC Barcelona. He played 118 official matches for Ajax in which he netted 10 times. With Ajax, Gabri won the KNVB Cups of 2007 and 2010.

"I've had a fantastic time at Ajax," Gabri said. "Ajax is a warm club and Amsterdam a great place to live. The supporters always supported me and I will definitely be back to say goodbye to everybody. I might return to Ajax as a youth coach or something like that, some day."

* * *

Thank you, Gabri. Your great work for Ajax was truly, truly appreciated. Good luck in Qatar!

K.

Gabri, Buena Suerte en Qatar !! Thank you for your service to Ajax . :ajaxscarf.gif:

I wouldn't upset at all if he someday returned to the club in some capacity.

Has been a good signing but injured alot in the last 12 months .Was surprised with talk of extending to 2012. Qatar must have given us some money and he is probably earning more than we paid him but good luck to him .
